Oh I gotcha. It seems most people recommend lower phosphates for a few reasons. One is algae issues. High phosphates CAN cause nasty algae blooms that can smother your corals, and they don't look very pleasing.
Another reason is if your nutrients get out of hand, (too high or too low), any coral can react negatively. STN/RTN, bjd, polyp bailout etc etc.
I think alot of people get caught up with chasing numbers that others say you should have. Whether their system is running fine or not. Every tank is different, so what works for some may not work for everyone. Ive seen tanks with super high nutrients look absolutely stunning. On the other hand I've seen more lower nutrient tanks that look good. Who knows, maybe some of the LNS aren't really that low they just don't want to admit it.
If your tank was running nicely before and poorly now, and the only thing you've changed is your nutrients, raise them back up. But be careful not to over do things. You have to find a balance and keep it there. Stability is key.
