Think your moving a lil fast i would let the tank grow a little coraline algae I would try that algae barn sump startup with pods and phyto and maybe just a lil piece of trustworthy live rock ... looks awesome and can't wait to see this in 30 days ....
I completely agree with the statement of me moving to fast. This aquarium is not about creating a successful sps aquarium as it is creating a successful sps aquarium following the directions provided by Aquaforest. I am trying to be scientific about the whole procedure and have been taking anecdotal notes the entire time. I will be posting my conclusions, findings, and thoughts regarding their process and products. I've had many successful reefs in the past using traditional methods. Again this is all about the Aquaforest process. I plan on writing my own set of directions so people can follow to turn their steirial base rock aquarium into a mature reef. The aquaforest directions defiantly need some tweaking.I believe much truth to this statement. Although there are many products to assist in speeding the cycle, maturation, supplementation, etc, nothing quite replaces sponges, dusters, coraline algae, pods, micro stars, worms, and all other forms of life balancing critters. To me, I think dead rock can be useful, but only if treated properly, and stored in saltwater seeded by another piece or LIVE ROCK, or rubble of some sort. Even dead live rock has eggs, spores, things that will regenerate quickly one the cycle is over, despite obvious death on that dead live rock. That said, I believe there is a common denominator with this process, and longevity with sps. Again, it is possible, but requires the hobbyist to pay CLOSE attention to detail. Even tank raised sps corals are vulnerable until this balance is met. The barometer has always been a quarter size piece of corraline algae is the time frame, coincidentally, based on conventional setups, it was about this amount of time to start seeing micro life evolve, sponges growing in sump and overflows, pods laying eggs, etc. These days, in our modern era, to avoid unwanted critters, most decide to use dead rock in order to avoid these pitfalls. Personally, I could not disagree more. In order to establish a dead system with the amount of micro life on LIVE ROCK, this process would then take much longer, in my humble opinion. I would request from the LFS, some rubble from a mature tank in their store, and get it into the tank yesterday, if you have not already seeded. Again, Life Source will feed that life, and speed up maturation, IMO. There are plenty of micro kits out there, perhaps this might help too. I look forward to seeing this tank take off, PM me if I can assist. Cheers
And i do agree "Life Source" is the key and should be one of the first start up products Aquaforest should direct you to use.I completely agree with the statement of me moving to fast. Thank you. I will keep u postedAll good,
I no you do not know me from any other reefer, but I was actually one of the first in the US to use AF. I am good friends with the owners as well as the support team with AF. I am just no longer providing the technical support for them these days. Michael and Anirban do a great job though, and I understand wanting to hear from AF with specific questions. I was merely interested in your thread as I have tried something quite similar, and given the small area for filtration, am wanting to also see your success. Best of luck, and well wishes on the build!
