I want to replace my HYDOR rotating deflector $11.99 BRS, this one surely failed sooner than I expected, and it wasn't cause it had debris. The other similar products on the market are, the Hydra Aquatics Nano Vortex 1/2", $9.74, premium aquatics, and the Innovative Marine Spin Stream the most expensive $23 marine depot. I wouldn't mind paying $23, as I feel these gadgets do a lot as far as water movement. But based on performance and noise, I would like the best one. Any input appreciated.[emoji106]

I just ordered one for my JBJ 30. It's loud and can be heard across the room. Been 24 hours and the fish hate their lives.

Should I let it run or trash it?
Also on the JBJ rimless, the top half gets exposed to air, where as other tanks the nozzle is completely submerged. Would that effect the sound?

I've been using one (now three) for over a year, only cleaning them once. The slightly more random flow is nice, I don't regret the purchases.

They are somewhat noisy when brand new / freshly cleaned, but once they slime up after 1-2 days it's basically in-audible.

I just installed one yesterday and it’s super loud running off a Sicce 0.5

Is it just a matter of waiting for the slime coat to build or should I take it apart?

Thanks I was looking at those too but was told for a tank my size 10g nuvo they wouldn’t be as useful. Since I have the spin stream I’d like to at least try to get it quiet before I get something else...

If you use the rubber extender it's a little more quiet. Otherwise ya they are loud

Ok I’ll try that, not super happy with it so far, I was hoping it and a return pump upgrade would replace a jebao wavemaker but at least on day 1 it is noisy and the Goniopora and gsp haven’t opened and seem to need more flow

Look into the RFG nozzles. No movable parts.

I went with a RFG nozzle and I am never looking back!! Of course they are totally silent, no moving parts and never fail. Please check one out they are almost game changing.

It's worth noting that you can get these exact same nozzles from ebay for around $2-3 dollars with free shipping. Just search for "round aquarium return nozzle". The measurements are in metric...so you might need a converter or more glue. #FightReefTankGouging

I tried @reeferfoxx’s advice and put the rubber extension- it is noticeably quieter on day 3 of being set up, now with the extension, but either it or the new Sicce pump is producing micro bubbles - any advice about how to get rid of ‘em?

Might be air stuck inside or being drawn into the spin stream. If the spin stream is creeping out of the water at the top, you can try tilting the nozzle to cover the exposed area or slightly pull the rubber extender from the outlet to tilt downwards.

Haha I didn’t think I could tilt it like that! Thanks! A bunch of bubbles are coming out so hopefully that will be the end of that!
