In the market for some new lights for our 6 foot 180 with mostly SPS... As of right new we have three radion gen twos. Weve been looking at three options....

60inch Aquatic life t5 hybrid with the three gen twos
60 inch Aquatic life t5 hybrid with three radion gen 4 pros
60 or 72 inch Giesemann Aurora

All fabulous choices. None better than the other for growing coral I think.

I’d go geismann just to say I did.
I think they’re sexy like Lamborghini.

Id love to... only down side about that choice is the 3800 dollar price tag :(

what about 2 kessil ap700's?

I will have to give them a look

Pretty much why I have to take em both off the list too.

Oh, I wouldn’t put that in a canopy.

I might set it on the couch next to me though ;)

The ap or the radions id def put in there.

With those two choices I think it’ll be about the color of the lights. If you like the Radion look or the kessil.

If I take the canopy off my wife will kill me.. she has all our souvenirs from our cruise on the top and she spent 2400 for the stand and canopy.... yup she would definitely kill me

I bought two Orphek Atlantik v4s for my 6' 220g two weeks ago. They seem to be providing good coverage and I'm pretty happy with them so far. The only negative I have so far is their connectivity and cloud based app which I'm not a huge fan of but I'm living with it. I rebooted my tank about 5 months ago when I lost a seal on a previously resealed tank so I don't have much coral. I got around 15 frags during the Fraghouse sale and they all seem to be happy. Worth checking out some other resources including the recent BRS review.

I would do the aquatic life t5s with kessil ap700s got one 48 aquatic hybrid and 1 kessil ap700 on my 48” 90gal and in love coming from 6 t5s. This setup is way more versatile you can any lights you want on the frame

If you have a hood, then retro some T5s around what you have... no need to get a fixture just to hide it.

...or get a Hamilton Cebu Sun and mount it in there for one of the best SPS lights on the market. It is cool to hide this fixture. :)

Go T5/LED hybrid. I’ve got 4x T5 bulbs and 2x Kessil A380WEs over my 4 foot tank, and couldn’t be happier.

If I had a 72” tank I would be super tempted by 4x T5s and 2x Kessil AP700... but that’s just me being a coverage nutcase. Ask @saltyfilmfolks if you can have too much coverage... haha

Hahaha.
Eight SBreeflights and an apex lol

Soooo lol don’t all throw snowballs at me but since your experimenting, why not the current orbit marine pros? (I don’t mean the ic loop ones either) the ones right before it. I have two of them on my 240 gallon tank, that’s full of sps, lps, softies and Maximus clams and they are stunning.

Granted they don’t have the fancy name and reef link etc, which is great for me since I still have a 90s flip phone. But for the money, you could get two of these that are 72 inch long, they will sit right on top of the tank as well. Plus I think some places have them for half off still, others still have them for 800 each. However I found new ones for 400 ish on line. Instead of spending 3,000 on lights you could spend less than a 1,000 and take your family on another vacation. Just think you can have twice as much memories up there.

But I’d be happy to show you pictures of my lights and how well they are doing on my 240 gallon. I have learned since I’m new in this hobby, but just because it’s expensive and has a neat name, doesn’t always mean it’s truly the best. As some have found out, I’m a research nut, in which I did tons of research on these lights. They are very very good lights to use.

These are some pics of my tank about a week ago roughly. My tank has been up barley for six months. Granted these pics are with my little Nokia flip phone so bare w me. But again, just showing what else is out there to explore.

Keep your existing G2s and either get the 60” Aquaticlife T5 hybrid or get 2 sets of 60” LET T5 retrofits. This will be the most economical yet effective option IMO.

If you're a Radion fan, I’d wait till the fall to upgrade as it’s just about the right timing for release of the G5s so you’ll see the market flooded with cheap G4s because they will cease to be able grow coral upon the release of the G5’s. :p :D

I haven't.. I've basically stuck with those.... And now I'm looking at an 60 inch ati powermodule
IMO, if you are keeping your hood, go retrofit for T5s and keep your LEDs... no reason to spend extra money on a casing that is not needed and will be hidden anyway. :)

I also have 2 of these on my 185, only one is lit but it gives off plenty of light.
