Information about gem tangs

If any fish does not come out during feeding I would suspect they are dead unless it's something really cryptic. To not see a tang for an entire day they are unfortunately almost certainly gone.

When I went on vacation my adult chevron tang disappeared. I had him 7 years and he was gone without a trace. Eventually I did find a few bones but they were not easy to locate. Given that you saw your fish yesterday you can probably still find the body but you may or may not want to.

Did you have someone come over and clean the tank? They might have swoop him out.

Ouch!! Sorry for your loss. 10 years ago I had a similar issue where I would lose seemingly health fish over night. It drove me crazy! Then one night I saw some weird movement in the reef, and to my horror I found giant Bobbit worm stretched from the back of the tank to the front of the tank feasting on a damsel. It was literally a nightmare to get rid of. It came after me several times. Nasty creature!! So it could be this or a hitchhiker crab that has grown under the radar and now it is dangerous to its inhabitants.

Did you observe any sign of ammonia/nitrite?

Your clean up crew could have taken care of his body before you even noticed his disappearance :/ But I figured out a yellow tang had died in my tank due to readable nitrite levels (young tank tho)

sorry for your loss!

The emerald crabs got him I don't know if that's how he died but there eating him there's not much left this really sucks
