Input on sps would be helpful

So I have a 6 bulb fixture the fixture is a half of inch wider than the tank should I only run 4 bulbs or run all 6?

Years ago I had an 8-bulb TEK fixture over a 40 gallon tank. The light spillage was nauseating.
I bet lol I’m going to mount fixture half inch back so there is no light spillage in front of tank half inch should not be a big deal I would not think

Did you start with dead rock or established live rock ?
90% of Rock was dry dead and 10 was live rock but dry rock now is almost covered in nice pink coraline

Sounds like the ideal situation for your given light. Should see positive results overall. Out of curiosity what bulbs are you running?

You can always look in on my journal, as I have some similar issues. T5 set it and forget it, I have been a T5 guy since 2006, and still refuse any other lighting, have tried, yet still go back. I believe dead rock and nutrients is your issue.

I think this is your problem, I don't think it is your light, nutrients, or anything else. When I upgraded from my nuvo 20 to my red sea 350, I used like 90% dead rock and had cycled the system for 4 months before I transferred my sps. I ended up losing like $10k worth of sps. My tank is now about 2 years old and I do water changes weekly, haven't lost sps since ( I added sps like 4months ago) . There is something about dead rock that sps hate. You'll just have to wait and try again in a few months

Here are some of my sps

I agree w/ Chaswood. If it's really that low light SPS will slowly but surely die.I made the same mistake having 2 Kessil 160s over my biocube. That was my first set of LEDs, and I didn't want to burn them. When I finally got a par meter in, I had like 100 par 3/4 of the way up lol.... i LOVE the look up LEDs, but they are so much harder to dial in. They are not plug and play like t5s

Lastly, I have to disagree with the nitrates. There's some things that science hasn't figured out in our tanks yet. Conventional wisdom says "just enough nitrates." Granted, I have a LOT of expoert, fuge, skimmer, vibrant, filter floss and WC....BUT, I dose my nitrates from 10-25 and I prefer the 20s... Acros, LOVE it and the colors are so much better, it's not close. Prior to that I had consisetnly 1-2 ppm nitrates and no dosing. Conventional wisdom also says SPS probably don't eat phytoplankton, but I dose that and they're much hairier when I do...go figure

Thank you guys for the input! Much appreciated!

I’m thinking this ati fixture will do wonders and I’m going to run 4 blue plus and maybe a coral plus and a purple plus am not 100 percent sure yet what combo gonna do some research

Okay I will run the tank with the new lights for a while and keep stable parameters then try again!
