Second time I have found these little buggers on or in my sock. I don't believe they are sort of reef related bug but still unsettling.

Ya that was my first thought too. Never seen them in the house, let alone in my sump until a couple weeks ago when I first saw it. I just took it as a one off until tonight.

The one on your finger looks like a coiled up amphipod which are a great addition to a fish tank. They will re-produce inside your tank, act as a tiny clean up crew, and provide food for your fish and corals.

I may be looking at the photo wrong though. Does it look like a coiled up bug or is it round?

Roundish like a lady bug. has a hard shell on top, many little legs on the bottom.

Hi I have had to remove stink bugs from my tank probably like the light.

I was just thinking drab colored lady bug

It's NOT an amphipod. it's an insect. it has a hard shell and shape of a lady bug. I know the difference between a pod an insect, this is why I posted.

looks like an insect to me and it has six legs. Carpet Beetle?

Asian Lady beetle. . . cousin to lady bug

that came to mind too. i couldn't find any pictures with the grey coloring though for an adult. what trips me out is they seem to like salt water

There does seem to be a small beetle on the ring of your filter sock.

The creature on your finger is an amphipod.
The creature on my finger is what was on the sock.
