Back pain is a B....., I missed 3 days of work because of back spasms last month and they seem to happen more frequently since I've gotten a little long in the tooth LOL

Some questions for you:

- What are the final space requirements for the L8 and the L16, including access for servicing?
- How do you clean the taller units?
- Do you have any expectation of widening the chambers so our hands will fit inside for cleaning? I have large hands, taking XL gloves.
- Do you anticipate any of the space requirements to change when you work out the designs for your new "Algae Scrubber Flow Distributor System: Alternative to the Slot Pipe?” How is it going, by the way?

The footprint of the base is about 17" x 5", add in another 1" to the width (so 6") for the heat sinks, and for the L16 that will need a sort of "spread footing" which I am still working on, trying to make something simple and effective.
The height of the L8 is 11" and the L16 is 19"
The same way as the L2, lift the growth chamber up about 1.5" and slide out the end.
I understand exactly what you are describing here - being able to reach into the Growth Chamber and clean it out. The issue is that if the growth chamber is made wider, you lose the 3D growth effect more and more the wider you go. Also the light proximity becomes less. What I plan on doing is providing various tools for cleaning out the growth chamber. Some people are big on keeping things sparkling clean - this is not really necessary for an algae scrubber, believe it or not...overcleaning can hamper effectiveness. So I guess when you take that into consideration, having a long handle brush and a long handle scraper will get you a long way, combined with the fact that you can remove the growth chamber completely and go somewhere else to clean it out.
This will be backwards-compatible to the L2 and L4, and hopefully the L8 and L16, but the weight of the screen (when full of growth) may become a factor with taller units.
I got the 3D printed prototypes, but it didn't turn out exactly as expected so I am tweaking the design

So is this correct for overall height requirements?
L8 = 11 + 1.5 = 12.5
L16=19 + 1.5 = 20.5?
for a tight fit vertically?

Correct, the space requirements are no different. This would effectively replace the injection molded slot pipe and fit in the same location.

Thanks, I am designing the details of some shelving in my equipment room. I plan to mount the ATS on this shelving above my sump. So the height will be part of determining the elevation at which I will mount the shelving.
