Anyone have any tips or tricks on getting rid of invasive palys?
I was thinking to just throw on a pair of rubber gloves and use a tweezer. Pull out as many as I can as quick as possible. And stop when I see any secretion.
Then do that daily until I get them all gone.

It’s starting to become a real issue for me. At first it was ok but now they are overrunning my monti’s. And using up some prime real estate in my DT.

Aptasia X I have found works. Also could manually pull them off becareful tho and wear goggles and gloves.

pull them, gloves and shield, zip lock bag them if you are tossing them.
run carbon if you are worried about tox in the water.
i don't and i've pulled out large patches at a time to move to my frag tub or give away.
never had any issues.

My pro tip for removing palytoxin producing corals:

write a document that contains the names Palythoa and Zoanthus, contains the word "palytoxin" and contains a list of the symptoms of palytoxin exposure. If you live with other people give them the written document. If you are exposed, you will want this to give to the hospital. Unless you live in an area where palytoxin exposure is prevalent (idk, under the water in a tropical area?) Your physician will not know anything about this and by preparing this document you will give them a leg up on treatment. Hopefully you never need to use it.

Then go for the straw thing posted above.

These are what I need to get rid of.

ah yes. I see. If i'm not mistaken those DO have palytoxin. proceed with caution!
Thanks I will. I have mistakenly touched them on many occasions without any problems. When pulling out the xenia.
Several years back i even had all the rocks out to be fresh water rinsed when doing a new aquascape and had an algae issue, they were there at that time as well, mostly done bare handed. No issues.
But this time I will be purposefully yanking them. So I will definitely be safe.

If you can remove the rock and scrape them off outside the tank, that's the better option. If you can't remove the rock, then as others have mentioned, take the proper precautions by wearing gloves and maybe even goggles or a mask of they might get exposed to air. I also recommend using the straw method or something similar. You want to try and suck up any secretions from the palys as you're removing them to prevent the palytoxin from entering the water column and affecting other tank inhabitants. Running fresh carbon afterwards and maybe doing a substantial water change is a good idea as well.

Funny that’s exactly what happened to me I was squirted in the eye by one and it landed me in the hospital then the ophthalmologist. He had no idea until I told him and he had to research it. He never heard of it until I told him. Took a week of drops, steroids and rest but all good now. It really sucked. Felt like welders flash for almost a week.

Wow. That sucks. I'm glad your vision recovered.

I'm really not sure why we don't make a bigger deal of documenting the things in our tank that we know to be toxic. In an extremely rare but bad set of circumstances, the people we live with may need to have the info to give to physicians on our behalf.

That scares me.
I’m blind from one eye already.

I’m going to be wearing protective glasses for sure. A mask, which we now have lots of - I wonder why…
And a long pair of rubber gloves.
I will also do as suggested and write down on paper about the toxin and hang it on my fridge before I do this.
Don’t want to scare my wife or she will try to talk me out of it all together.

It needs to get done.

Yes I now wear glasses and gloves anytime I deal with fragging my zoas and palys. I always had that attitude how the hell is that little thing gonna squirt me in my eye. Well that little ******* did and taught me a lesson I don’t want that to happen again.

Can we see a before and after if you have them???
