I bought a hanna checker a couple of months ago. I watched about 5 different Youtube videos on how to use them and being a typical male did not read the instructions in the box. Anyway they ALL tore or cut one side of the reagent sachet. I did the same and always thought about the powder getting caught in the corners of the sachet thereby giving inconsistant amounts of reagent for the test.
I would do 2 or three tests one after the other with differing results. Then I read the instructions and we are to CUT the sachet on 2 edges with a radius at the corner and open them as in my image. I have tested this and am geting no varience at all with my tests:)

Ok, but like I said have a look at how they open them on youtube including BRS. Just a tear along one side, cant be accurate

I always tap the powder down before opening, if done properly tearing has no I'll effect. As long as you are consistent on how you do it is the main thing.

It will be just as accurate no matter how you open the packet as long as you get all the powder in! :)

But I cut 2 adjacent sides, pull the sides apart and make a fold. Then, pour and tap from each side:

@Dr. Jim is an extreme version of how I fold my packet, but same intent. I'll try it. I also tap the sides before cutting to dislodge any stuck crystals.

One extra thing I do for consistency is remove bubbles from side of vial. After the 2-minute shake, I turn vial horizontal and while turning it I also tilt it side-to-side. This makes the big bubble knock the little bubbles off the sides. Sounds confusing but works well.

????????????????????:)

The dotted lines on the packet with a picture of scissors and the words "cut here" clued me in early how to do it correctly, lol. No offense... just yanking your chain, lol.

Been there! Used to just rip the corner and dump it in until someone in my local club posted instructions. What a "duh" moment
