is it dead?

just use old DT water to fill your QT, just run a bag of carbon and a heater, you can change it out later. Be creative, chop stick behind him, ice, anything, but get him out even if it's to a bucket in the short term and do a water change.

Make sure your carbon is fresh. If for some reason he's started to develop an infection, it can easily pass.

What % are you running your lights. Please do not pull that nem. It is retreating into the rockwork trying to get away from the light. As far as worrying about its mouth and the redish brown stuff its poop or its releasing zooxanthellae from to much light. I don't know why anyone would be concerned about its mouth being stretched or torn. You can take a razor and cut that nem right through its mouth and you would just end up with 2 anemone..
For going through a powerhead that nem looks good.......

The black widow nem i got this past friday and the first night he got into my powerhead, i had a foam cover on it but his tentacles still managed to get a little mangled. the rbta has been fine, he has been happy since he's been in my tank, just curious as to why he decided to poop at the same time as the injured nem. My lighting schedule...
On at 8 am, and i have it ramp up in color and intensity till 2pm, then start ramping down and off at 10 pm.

sigh....there is a HUGE difference between propagating a nem properly then putting it in an isolated system for 24 hours and one being wraped up into a power head within hours of introduction of a new tank...

The same reason you should run Carbon in a system if you have multiple Nems, lessen the chance of cross contamination. Same reason the Cipro treatment works to bring back sick nems. Infections can spread, if that nem is getting sick he is putting his other nem at huge risk.

And what signs are you seeing that its sick?

Look I don't have time to sit here and go back and forth with you about why this that or the other. He needs to get that Nem out of his tank ASAP. If you would like to have a legitimate discussion about it later I'm more then willing, but right now I have a few things to do and have enough experience treating sick and injured nems, backed up with research and testing by both Mihn and myself for many years on treating and recovery sick and dying Nems.

I have 0 physical proof his nem is sick, I do have the experience to know that having gone through everything it has gone through it is at significantly increased risk of being so and is at a very high risk of cross contaminating other nems in his tank.

Well ok Amoo but just ansering my question would have been a lot shorter reply than the big speach about not ansering it. Leave it in the tank

@Jk120 I walked back inside because I want to add, that I'm not attempting to come off as an elitist or a jerk, if I am I apologize. I'm just trying to help the guy from the vast experience I have in seeing all of the sick and injured nems I have treated myself personally, coached other through or watched as others were coached along.

Still ancer would have been shorter. If he takes that out of his Display into a quick put together QT it will Die. There are no signs of infection just distress from going through powerhead. If moved to QT with water parameters are not stable it will Die and it takes at least 1 mo to get qt going

If you do set up a qt its not the water from your DT you want it would need to be a sponge filter somthing with good bacteria on it. The bacteria you want isn't in the water its on the rock glass sand not in the water

Ok if you take DT water and put it in let's say a 10gl qt tank with carbon your just putting dirty water in there and waiting on the carbon to filter it because there's no beneficial bacteria in there to complete the nitrogen cycle. That's what let's us keep aquatic animals in our glass boxes the nitrogen cycle started from the beneficial bacteria. Even if you use carbon from the DT it still wouldn't work because we don't leave it in there long enough for it to grow bacteria on it if bacteria would even grow there. Reef 2Reef can be a good source for info but if someone is telling you to do something without an ancer as why and would rather just tell you in great lengthhow smart they are or what great vast amount of knowledge they have instead of just ancering your question probably not one to listen to

I really appreciate all the help and advice that I'm receiving on my posts here. I am an avid researcher and use the advice that I get here and go on to do more reading/watching videos. I have taken everything that i have read on this thread, been in talks with the gentleman that i got the nem from, an actual exotic vet clinic, and Lord knows all over the internet, and am trying to decide what the best course of action is. I am going to set up the QT tank.. for now i have the rock that i set in my sump that I can put in the tank for the beneficial bacteria. I'm also thinking I'm going to order the Dr Tims one and only plus two sponge filters so i can get them seeded, and keeping one in my sump for future issues if they arise. If i take the nem out, I'm going to do it in a way that will not harm him, the livestock in my tank is just as important to me as my own 2 dogs. Trust me when I say that I do not want to do anything that is going to cause the situation to become worse.

@Jk120 what is your problem dude? Why are you so ticked off about all of this? First of all, I said I was more then willing to answer your questions at a later time, meanwhile had you actually read the sticky in this forum on Cipro or the answers I was giving you, ALL of the questions you asked had already been answered. So in essence, scrolling through everything you asked last night, Every question had an answer readily available.

Secondly, this is a hobby forum. I don't get paid for my time here, and like most have many other real life obligations. If you can't wait less than 24 hours for a response and instead want to go into character assassination mode when somebody has openly said "hey I've got a bunch going on right now I can get back to you later in more depth", then maybe you need to take a look in the mirror.

Thirdly, Nem QT and Tx are SIGNIFICANTLY different from fish QT. Again had you read the sticky you would know this. Nem Tx is run on a heavy water change method as you're removing medicine and harmful bacteria in the water and replacing it with fresh water. Nems don't run around pooping like fish and if you're feeding a Nem in an emergency QT or Tx you're already doing it wrong to begin with. As I stated to you yesterday evening which you chose to ignore and rant on about how I wasn't answer you, the likelihood of the Nem having some type of infection start showing within a few days of a powerhead event is very high. Is his nem expelling Zoos because it is simply stressed, sick, adjusting to the light? The answer, just as I gave last night, is we don't know for sure, but based on experience there is a high likelihood it is from being sick. Now if you want to play Russian Roulette and hope it's just stress, knock yourself out and feel free to give that advice. But what's not cool is to rant on and on about whatever you were ranting about when I said specifically I was busy and would be more then happy to have a followup in depth with you later.

So if you would like to have a civilized discussion, more in depth then I stated to you I had time for last night, regardless of what YOU THINK I had time for, I'm more then willing to answer your questions. If you're just going to keep ranting on and on and acting like a child then I'll pass. The OP is free to make whatever decisions he wants based on information from anybody he wants to listen to. If you can't handle that or have a problem with it, you are free to make the same decisions. Either way good luck with your carpet and 3 BTAs you have personally.

Ah man. I just pulled ~20lbs of lr from my sump this weekend and threw it out. If I had known you were local I would have offered it.
But like stated above nem qt is different than fish, at least my understanding, you normally don't use lr and use massive/100% pwc, mainly for treatment, and can be set up on the fly.

Any update on condition today?

@Amoo I'll get an update with pictures to you guys today. My cipro is scheduled to be delivered today as well.
@Lance M. Hey man, thanks for the offer. I'm glad to get to know more people from the area. So far my only local contacts are the fine people down at Tide Line. I read Amoo's post on taking care of a nem in a HT, and realized i won't need to pull any rock from my sump as well. I also have a lot of rock curing in the garage.

Ok Amoo since you asked. You are right there is a difference between a coral QT from a fish QT there's no copper and you need good lights for a coral Qt. In a fish Qt you treat fish with meds in a coral QT you make sure there's no pest that's hitched a ride or wait for pest eegs to hatch. I love the fact you have meds for a sick anemone you need to bottle that stuff. Anemones do poop how do you think they get rid of waste. Know as far as looking at the pick of the so called sick nem you see a brightly colored nem. I mean that nem has a lot of color. Its not pale its mouth isn't deformed. The zooxanthellae coming out of its mouth is from to much light. He has LEDs that need turned way down . So my problem with you is you are way over complicating something that's simple know you have this person worried about there nem probably spending money on stuff that could be spent somewhere else not that a coral QT is a waste of money but if this person is just starting out and I'm going to say they are there money would be spent best upgrading there hole system like adding an ATO so everything has a good chance of survival and success.
