Is it me or do visitors only notice cheap, "lame" fish?

So you can see from my sig that I have a lot of gorgeous, colorful, (and expensive) fish. Why is it that when guests come by and look at the tanks, I hear stuff like "oh wow! What's that clear guy playing in the sand?" (Sand sifter)

Or "what's that small black and white fish?" (Bangai Cardinal).

When it comes to coral, I of course hear "are all of those plants alive?" "Why are they moving?" And they point out stuff like star polyps...

When "reefers" come by, we always notice the goods! :D

You folks have this experience?

yup... It's because you are an active aquarist!

Comments about nemo, dori, oh look at the big leathery piece! Ummm, don't you want to see this space invader pectina??? :ooh:

Nope, it's the GSP that they always go, WHOA! That's so cool :crossedlips:

Be happy they like it and if they show more interest than calling your fish silly names, see if they'll take in some more knowledge. You never know, you may become a mentor

Everyone is so impressed with my pair of Maroon clowns, whom I hate. ;) They seem less impressed when I point out my pair of mandarins or Copperband Butterfly, which can be hard to keep due to it's refusal to accept prepared foods.

My inverts are usually noticed before anything....for whatever reason people are amazed with my cleaner shrimp.

Good call! I've had that a lot too.

Bubble algae, I thought you just picked it out and ate it? Like bubble gum... no?

Look at the hermit crabs fighting !!! Really?!?!

Hahsha I have had people point to my bubble algae when I have had it as well. My urchins and shrimp are always a hit.

I've also had to explain the difference between my powder blues and dory... My yellow belly hippo I just accept. No one cares that it has a yellow belly and is "more rare"

:D we fish nerds always know!

When my girlfriend comes with to the lfs she likes skeleton of a dead coral or aiptasia lol.

Lol one of my tanks has some aiptasia, it hasn't caused any issues and between 6 peppermint shrimp, a few butterflies, and a couple filefish, they don't go anywhere. They did voraciously eat monano anemones though (which were much more problematic)

LOL It's the matted filefish in my tank that people always seem to notice first...not the wrasses...not the tangs...the filefish. "Woah! He looks prehistoric!"
