Is it time for the hobby to pick up again?

not sure honestly.... the vacation i had away from it was very nice i almost didn't want to come back haha..ordered A couple nice colonies to try and change my mind since i lost a couple to neglect..:sad: well not so much neglect but a top off running dry while i was away... had a 70 gal cube skimmer when i got home...lol

Never really a break. Just changing the type of corals being collected from time to time. Lately however, taken aback due to some deal gone bad, gotta be very cautious this time.

I'm ready to bunker down for the winter and spend more time staring at my tank. I think the more time you are around the tank the more maintenance, mods, and livestock you ending adding/doing.

yes and no sure more ppl will be home to look at the tank, but i feel a cold winter coming. also along with the lack of job growth and extremely high unemployment rates(even higher in the winter) i think its getting harder for many to condone keeping their tanks going.
i think this winter is going to be a tough sell, but there is alot of nice stuff floating around.
i do see this being a good year for newer tech sales due to lower prices and more innovation. i.e. leds and automation systems

I agree along the lines with Nixer. while I think most of US will be into our tanks more, until the economy picks back up, I dont see may more getting into it. we will continue to see setups for sale everywhere. Personally, I am getting by on the minimum with my tank till I have plenty of free money. I dont see that happening until next spring.

I work from home when I'm not traveling and as luck would have we put a lock on travel for the last month so....I start at my tank everyday while sitting on conference calls

But I would expect more activity now as we get into the fall. In Orlando we have a little show coming up at the end of October that we're looking forward to as well.

The reefing season is approaching! Reefers from around the globe will be back full force within about a month. I have already stared to see several people here that have not been in several months, including your wife, Rev.

I never stop either ,the cooler seasons are more fun for me though when its about reefing. I do see a lot of people breaking down there tanks due to the economy

I voted no...but feel that it will not drop off dramatically but will remain very flat. I do not think you will see a spike in new growth into the hobby, but those addicted will still be very passionate with the hobby. I am personally going 9 years strong and love reefing. I am a homebody by nature and like messing with my sps tank.

Up in the Northeast I know the 5-8 day power outage really put a damper on the hobby and I hope that many did not break their tanks down. Crashes like that really break the back to many hobbyist that are on the fence imho.

As some have said the Reefing season is fast approaching but overall I am not sure we'll see that many new hobbyists just yet. The economy is still in a pickle, and this hobby, as we all know, ain't the cheapest to get into, or even maintain when it comes to finances or time. Only time will tell

I don't think we will see many new hobbyist! But, during the warm season many people do not bother with their reef much. They have family things to attend to and outside enjoying the great weather. Once the weather starts to cool down and outdoor activities dwindle people become more interested in their reef. For the past 10 years or so I have noticed the activity start to pick up around the first week of October.

See it's different out here in the west... It's to hot in the summer so we hibernate and the rest of the year is play time... Right now it's riding season for example you can't put a helmet on and go in the desert with 120 degree temps... I guess it depends where you are...

a lot of the old heads have gotten out or don't post anymore, not the same as it use to be and I don't really see an influx of new reefers coming in, but a far as retail sales in the hobby, yes this is the time it picks up usually
