I have 2 mats of gsp slowly covering my overflow walls and this morning when i woke up the mat was super white but my polyps still came out and are looking really healthy. Does anyone know what this means??

Pictures with white light spectrum would help.

I dont have any pictures atm at work but the gsp has been in the same place for 3 weeks and it happened over night but they fully extend out and look good it kind of looks like just a coating of white

What are your tank numbers? Phosphate, temp, nitrate, calcium, ph, alk, magnesium and specific gravity? Water changes? My guess it wa purple matt before bleaching white?

Less then 1 nitrate. .08 phosphate.
480 calcium
13 dkh
1400 ppm mag
1.025 salinity
79°F
Yes very purple

Dkh is high. Something close to 8 or 8.5 would be closer to natural sea water about 7. I just read about a species of coral with a white matt like that but I do not have knowledge about this. Take pictures and send out. Someone will know.

Do you dose anything to your tank? What is the dkh of the saltwater your using? Also, how are you testing dkh?

Redseas titration i dose everything i need. I haven't dosed alkalinity cause i made an oops and over dosed it like 2 month ago i test everything twice a week.

Besy way to lower dkh is water changes and stop any alk dosing if your doing any. Make sure the dkh of the replacement saltwater is about 7 to 9.

What's the best way to lower the dkh

Best way is to use a salt mix with less dkh. Instant Ocean, IO Reef crystals, and in of the "pro" salts mix high. Which is not so bad for high consumption tanks filled with stony corals.

Red Sea blue bucket mixes at 8 and there are several others.

I use IORC which mixes high, but I have large consumption by stony corals; 20% is not going to move the needle for long. If I have to do a BIG water change, I will knock it down with muriatic acid or bisodium phosphate, then gas off the excess CO2 for a while before dumping it in.

8 to 12 is currently the recommended range by most. But NSW is 7. I have dicided to follow close to God's natural sea levels .... the chemistry in our tanks are dependent on a multitude of items.

Sooo add more stony coral lol and i use. Instant ocean reef crystals all i have atm is the gsp i like to add stuff slowly

Redseas reef care program says 12 dkh. Is recommended for a mixed reef why is that??

Very true -- and there are many excellent reefs that run high ALK. But there is an alchemy they practise to balance things out -- high nutrient being one element.

I run 8ish but use IORC that mixes at 12+ for a stony tank. Otherwise, I would be dosing 1/2 a liter a day of two-part because my consumption is high.

Do daily water changes until dkh is reset. Calculate volume and change .5 to 1 dkh per day.
