Hi started the hobby back in late January 2011 and one eye of the My Miami Chalice which I love was going for around 450.00 to 500.00 per eye. It seems like every time I see it for sale now it keeps going down and down in price for each eye what will it be at 100.00 per eye before the year is over??:squigglemouth:

Looks to be that way it grows super fast and the market is flooded with chalices all together.. I see hundreds of chalices for sale and nothing moving... I was just talking about this with a friend the other day I think the chalice bubble has popped....:(

+1....I wonder what will be the next new thing.

Lots of new acans seem to popping back up looks to me like there making a come back... Sps has always stayed pretty steady not the biggest thing out thou or catches the most attention...

I sure hope that the chalice bubble has popped... I'm tired of seeing crazy prices for little booger frags.

I think the ones that are gonna keep there prices up are the slow growers like convict and BCP flamethrower, but I agree the prices on most are dropping fast

It was a fast grower for us. The growout decided to sell a chunk of our piece cheap because we aren't looking to make a terrific profit or anything. Just trying to make some of our money back and pass on the love. It's a beautiful piece and if it took us a year to grow out those eyes, you can guarantee we wouldn't be selling it for a reasonable price. Orange immolation, bpc ft, rising sun, rainbow sleeper, convict, raging rivers, rainbow magic, and the list goes on. You won't find any of those selling for cheap.

The chalice craze is over UNLESS someone release something new and unseen to the addicts. That is why sales are tough. Everyone has seen a 4-color wm,everyone has seen a 2 color contrasting eye/body chalice, etc. Red rims are even getting easier to find now. But certain chalices are still instant sell outs because

1.They grow slow
2.They are unique(1 of a kind,in the hobby,for now)
3.Bright
4.Since everone wants it,collector value is HIGH for collectors
5.The price is right

My Miami use to be this way,as it was the first other than green eyed Alien Eye chalice,on top of that the eyes were SOOOOOO much brighter than that of any chalice of that time!

It is a very successfull captivated coral now,so it is becoming more widespread and due to that the value is quickly dropping.

I still like it though! I dont even have it yet, lol!

I really think acroporas and polyps are going to be the next "craze",acans in a close 2nd,but it is hard to sell acans at a super high price because 1 color in Bob's tank could moprh into a completly differant one in Jill's tank. The acans that are awsome colored and don't morph like crazy, usually carry the high prices.

yea the my miami is a fast grower  so if the frags keep poppin out its only common sense to beat the market and make your frag desireable for people :sweet_kiss: as i believe i did by posting up 3eye frag for 170 and change per eye :dribble:bargain for now i guess :squigglemouth: but i hope the chalice obsession hasnt stopped :too_sad:i dony think it will just slows down :tire:

I don't think acroporas will take off like chalices. Part of the draw of chalices is they do not need pristine conditions and do not need a lot of light so they do well for beginners too. SPS can be more touchy and frustrating. Zoas also tend to be steady. It's like any other coral. Once they grow out and everyone has them the value drops. Look at the spacemonsters. However around the corner is the next big thing that I gotta have! :)

Agreed with above post. Forgot to mention that. I dont think any coral will ever have a craze like chalices did.

Because chalices are

Colorful
For the most part fast growing
Unique looking,compared to other corals
Easy to care under any lighting, from pc to LED

That is why there was a craze, because any reefer could keep a chalice.

I honestly hope that there isnt a craze anymore!Im tired!lol

I think that SPS are going to be the craze, along with polyps.

Acans morph way to much under diffirent lighting conditions to have any sort of Craze to keep up with the market IMHO.

I hope so!

Yeah, My Miami was destined to be the one to get as soon as it fetched a $1500 price tag for 1-eye on Ebay. Think back to when the Tyree BGM or Pumpkin Patch was released. That used to go for $500+ / eye. Now you can't give it away. We (all of us in this thread including myself) drive the market and the price. The rare chalices mentioned above are all still in demand because they grow slow (if at all). Just like the Jabawaki. Someone paid over $3K for a tiny piece of it a while back. Why do you think it's never for sale here? There isn't an underground Jabawaki trade! It doesn't grow. We all what we can't have. If I put a frag on the sale thread today for $2K, it would be gone in 10 seconds. Why? Because nobody else has it. Supply and demand.

The wholesalers are asking the divers to find any rare looking chalice they can find. It goes up on Ebay and "we" bid it up to outrageous prices. But even those are falling now. Most of us are either out of $$$$ or out of room! lol. The My Miami chalice didn't decrease in value. It will always be a fast growing nice piece. WE decreased the value....all trying to cash in! It's the American way.

The chalice craze died with the economy......so many reefers are getting out of the hobby that demand has drastically fallen while supply has steadily increased with both wild collection and aquaculture. There will be no new craze so long as the economy continues to stagnate......I think the first My Miami frag sold for $1500 on ebay.......
