Is my new coral dead??

Thanks again everyone! It’s doing great today. The colour still looks like a ball of wet paper towel though lol. I guess I’ll be investing in some new lights as my blue lights are fairly dim, please let me know if you have any suggestions of good brands!

I'm sure we'd all like to see a picture :p Depends on your budget and tank size. Kessil A360X and AI Prime 16HD are some of the top lights, but they're only recommended to light a 2'x2' area for each unit. They're hugely customizable thought. Bang for your buck would probably be something like an Marine Orbit IC LED, which I got for my tank when I first started (and I'm still using it to light half of my tank now). It's pretty good- I don't think it could give you the amazing coloration for SPS or maybe something like this, but it's a pretty good light when cranked up to full. Another option is a blackbox LED (sketchy chinese big box units for LEDs), which I also have and they usually have more UV, which can promote coloration. I have my acros under it and they color up a bit- much less room for adjustment though. Unfortunately it's a case of the more you spend the higher quality light you get though. Just my 2 cents based on my experiences. Good luck!

Luckily plate corals can be healthy with less intense light. Curious, what lights do you have in your tank? Is it an AIO with built in LEDS?

It looks like you’re in BC. Fragbox is in Toronto Ontario (near me). That’s pretty far from you so I bet delays would happen. My order from them shipped Monday and arrived on Tuesday at 1:48pm.

I would maybe recommend ordering from places a little closer to home. In my searches for stores near me I’ve found one store in BC called fraggarrage (They have a pretty large collection and their prices look more reasonable than other stores I’ve seen) and I believe Canadacorals just moved from Toronto to bc as well.

Best of luck on your corals recovery! It can be slow sometimes.

I will say I've never had an issue with fragbox's corals not looking like the photo posted (except that one time they sent me the wrong one but they we're quick to make that right ;Hilarious ). I would reach out to them and let them know how it came in,They are the only place I've gotten my corals from and the few times there was an issue (shipping delays, mix ups etc) they we're awesome about sorting it out. Also although I don't have personal experience with plate corals be careful having it on a ledge (or what looks like a ledge in the photo). I know plate corals can move around and if they fall onto another coral it can be disastrous. Most people keep them on the sand bed for that reason although I'm unsure if its different for the long tentacled varieties.

I never had a plate coral move around. However, I do agree I have had frags fall off and land on my plate coral. No ill effects to the plate but my frags were toast.
