Is my purple hammer ok?

Please look at the picture. I recently got a 2 head purple hammer and for the first 2 days both sides were out and full. Now only the left side (the smaller head) is out and the right as looked like this for 2 days now.
I fed everyone last night (polyp-booster and reef roids) and I do spot feed, all my levels are good
Ph= 8.2
Nit=.25
nitrate=10ppm
dKh=11
phos=0
all my other corals are full and looking good.
Please let me know what you think

Is Nit nitrite? if so it should be 0.
How long had the tank been setup?

It's been up for about 5 months now. 1.5 months with coral in it.
my levels have been somewhat even for the last month. NIT=nitrite. I was accounting that to I just fed the corals.
most of the time nitrite is .25 to 0.
Also I setup a fuge very recently and added matrix rox. since then my water has been cloudy. I have carbon bags that are still good. (3 weeks old) and a GFO bag (2 weeks old) along with filter floss sheets.

Hi all, So I did post these pix on my build thread but wanted to get some focus on how I did the fuge for my tank. All suggestions and guidance are welcome and appreciated So I have a 25g AIO with 5 chambers in the back. the 2 outer chambers have the filter media with sheet filter floss...

Looks like it could possibly be splitting into 2 heads. Give it some time. As long as you don’t see any brown jelly on it.

I did see "jelly" come out of it when I fed but that was the same with all the coral. I looked this morn and it "looked" like there were pieces coming off of the head on the right. I will look again when I get home from work.

Make sure it’s not brown. If so shut everything off and suck up as much as you can. you may have to cut that head off so it doesn’t spread. I think what you are seeing is normal. Whenever I feed mine they expel a white mucous. That’s nothing to be concerned about. If and I say if it’s brown then it is very contagious. I just lost 2 heads of my torch. I cut them off amd now the remaking head looks ok.

The thing is the right side will not come out. the left side will. and its got a grey haze on all of the heads and the on the shell where the heads come out. the other side doesn't.

Just give it some time. One thing I learned is not to panic. My corals do some crazy things but always go back to normal. Don’t know why but they do. When you panic you do stupid things that will cause more harm. My frogspawn shrunk for about 2 weeks no idea why but it’s back to normal again amd looks healthy. Ive learned to take a step back and leave everything alone unless there’s a guarantee something is wrong.

Trust me I’m the same way. I’m pretty new to this also and patience is key in this hobby. I use to freak out for every little thing. I still freak out but now it’s more of a controlled freak out.

yep. it's near the the bottom of the tank so about 13" from the light source. all the levels you have listed are really close to what I have, and it has sheltered flow so the heads are swaying, not being pushed.

There is no such thing as Matrix Rox..... I assume you are just talking about regular Seachem Matrix media, correct? Roxx is usually a carbon type product. If you are talking about regular Matrix media that looks like river rocks, then you probably just needed to rinse it better. That is probably the cause of the cloudiness. Matrix is very dusty when new and needs a good thorough rinse before using. The floss should clean it up before long.

That's not jelly, that's mucous. Its a defensive mechanism many corals have at their disposal. Euphyllia are prone to getting a disease called Brown Jelly Disease (BJD) which as the name suggest, involves a brown jelly substance that covers the coral, and eventually kills it.

Do you have any coral dips available? A quick dip in Revive or something probably wouldn't hurt.

Yea I was talking about matrix media. Sorry, I did rinse them in R.O. water until I thought it ran clear. I will give it a few more days.

as for the mucous, I need to look when I get home and I will post pix under non- blue light.

I do not have dip but really need to get some.

Phosphate should never be a true zero.
Carbon, nitrate and phosphate must be in trace amounts and in balance to some degree with each other for corals to thrive long term.
It difficult to tell what the exact problem is on “new” additions, however, not maintaining trace nutrients in relative balance can certainly be suspect, or at minimum, a future problem.
If your solid on your numbers and stability, just keep watch.

from bad to worse. tested all my levels and the bad ones are all VERY high:
ammonia: .25
Nitrite: 2.0ppm
Nitrate: 80ppm
Phos: .25
alk: 10
calc:440 (good)
pH: 8.1
I am guessing it is because the hammer died and I didn't get it out until I got home so it festered?
I did a 3 gal. water change last night and will do a 5 gal change tonight when I get home. hopefully it will lower the levels.
I will put in Special blend bacteria, and seed when I change the water. Should I get some copepods and phyto also?

How old is your tank? Have you also added any new fish recently? I wouldn't think levels that high would be from a small head like that.

tank is 3 month old and fully cycled. no fish, just coral. The levels were really good the night before. (we test every other night for my daughters science class work) but because of the new inhabitant (the hammer), we have tested everyday for the last 4 days.
levels as of 11/8 were
ammonia: .00ppm
nitrite: .5ppm
nitrate: 10ppm
phos: <.1ppm
dKh: 11
pH: 8.2
calc: 400ppm
now the only other thing that could do that is I did feed this same night after we tested. so maybe that?
