Is my RBT splitting?

I like the controllability but I adore the shimmer of kessils. A hard decision.

Up to you, either would work. I just wouldn't get one TOO small.

There is a lot of versatility in the medium size ones because you can always get a few more rather than buying a whole new $800 light for a bigger tank. I run two AI Primes for my Reefer 250 and all of my Anemones and coral are nice and happy.

So if you already have one and you decide to get a bigger tank, just buy one more.

Your'e right. I just purchased the AI Prime with the flex arm. Thanks so much for your help :)

Np. Make sure you dont turn it too high. And I would use "acclimation mode." That anemone is used to very low light and you don't want to fry him.

This is a kessil 160 about 6 inches over a 14g tank. It's at 75% for 6 hours. My anemones live right below the light and split about every 6 months. They look different all they time but never look like your picture when the lights are on.

Anemones are light hogs. I have a kessil a80 on my freshwater shrimp tank and wouldn't use that light on anything bigger than a 10 gallon. As you see I have to a160 on my 14g and to be honest I have some shading issues to deal with long term.

My recommendation is an A360 or A160 plus some T5. I think the results you are getting with your current light isnt meeting your expectations. If you would have went with a light setup like this from the start you would be dealing with a thriving splitting anemone instead of a struggling one. If you are attempting to save money I would go with a AI prime and some T5 for all the reasons of the other posters. You also don't need t5 light additions for a while but I would still recommend.

Kessils are great but expensive. And their connectibility is subpar to most lighting on the market. Out of the box AI is king. And T5 help diffuse the issues with single point LEDs.

Either way get some light over that rig and start looking at what else you can add!

Oh my! I adore your tanks. They are so beautiful. Especially the nano with the rock flowers! Thanks so much for the advice, very very much appreciated.
On your tank with the A160, did you make or buy that screen top? I'm about to do the same with my tank.

I ordered the clips, and the screen top lot from BRS. It works well but I have some issues with it.

The clips will siphon water over the edge and drip outside the tank if the water level rises too much. This doesn't happen too often but when a snail blocks the flow it can cause drips. A little nerve wracking and sucks if it ruins your woodwork.

There is also a gap when you use this style. I thought it was too small for a fish but a yasha goby had to prove me wrong. My gap is less than 1/8 an inch and he squeezed thru. On the list of upgrades is a custom top. They are expensive but in my experience worth it. I don't understand how some people have wrasses in an open top and don't have jumpers but I have it all sealed up and one slipps thru.

But a feed door and 100% coverage from jumpers in my opinion is worth the 100-200 for a custom lid.

I'm all about reefing on a budget but lives of my animals are Paramount. Good light, safe tank, battery backup, heater controllers, ato make it safe and easy to enjoy. I went cheap and learned expensive lessons.

It isn’t too expensive for a diy screen top. If you diy it verses an actual custom with a feeder door. I’m just gonna buy a window frame kit from my local hardware store along with some screening. I’m gonna do it in the next week or so. I can let you know how it goes and how much it costs if you’re interested.

Don't try to stretch the webbing too tight it will make the frame twist. Voice of experience
