Is Prazi Pro + Malachite Green + Copper Enough?

Prescriptions are the path of choice for a subset of the hobbiest community, we all agree on that. With all due respect, you are claiming a 98% purity is ineffective and that claim is a stretch by anyone's measure. If you believe that then you have to provide evidence that shows a 98% purity and 2% inert formula is proven ineffective. There are no such scientific studies that I am aware of.

The OP asked for suggestions. We hobbiests need to stick together and help each other.

There are no scientific studies regarding CP whatsoever, only anecdotal evidence. But you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone with more experience than me using Chloroquine phosphate over the past 7-8 years. I've used it on hundreds of fish with active signs of ich, velvet, brook & uronema. When using 99-99.5% pure CP in a disinfected QT I have a 100% success rate; meaning if the fish survives then whatever pathogen(s) were afflicting it never returns post treatment.

However, when you deviate away from that protocol (e.g. use something other than pharmaceutical grade, dose CP into a DT with rock/sand, treat in a long-term QT with biofilm present) - then results will vary. I don't want to see the effectiveness of this amazing medication being called into question because it's being used haphazardly. If that happens, then the hobby as a whole takes a step back as most will go back to using copper poison to treat their fish.

Thank you for all the input. It seems to have started quite a debate.

I cant get pharmaceutical grade CP at the moment, so I have ordered the new life spectrum powder ich shield from amazon.

I have also ordered kanaplex, metroplex, furan 2 and a new bottle of prazi pro because my other bottle was about 4 years old and I didnt want to risk it being out of date.

All of these should arrive to me by 15th this month at the latest.

Then I can go ahead and buy my first few fish and put them through the paces in the quarantine tanks I have setup.

For anyone interested in seeing my tank, I have made a journal thread - https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/tokies-280g-build.318609/

I look forward to your input.

@Humblefish, we both have a lot in common experience wise and we completely agree on protocol. It is good that you help your fellow hobbyist. I've seem your many posts and know this is your first objective. I too have used pharmaceulital grade CP in years past.

If this is preemptive care, Consider treating solely with chloroquine for 21 days per instruction for external parasites. Then do a water change and treat with prazi per protocol for worms. That is my preemptive regimen.

I will check out your journal now!

Thanks for the advice guys. Im looking forward to my delivery from Amazon and then its off to the fish market.

If I dont get too distracted, I will take a ton of pictures of whats on offer at the fish market and share them in a separate thread.

I think you guys misunderstood me, again I didn't say it doesn't contain CP, I said you don't know the purity of CP used or other info about it. Thats why I prefer pills vs. ich shield.
orfourse in this hobby everyone has his own path and no two perform the same procedures.

Today was bittersweet. I got a phone call regarding my new life ich shield, its being held at customs and apparently i need an import license for it...

On the plus side it prompted me to drive into town to try and find a pharmacy that had chloroquine phosphate. I managed to find somebody and picked up 200 x 250 mg.

The label does not offer much information and im equally skeptical about the fact their point of contact is a hotmail email address. But in this situation beggars cant be choosers.

Can anybody advise me on the correct dose please?

250 mg tablets have 150 mg pure CP, so each pill treats around 2.5 gallons depending on the dosage you want.

Check the expiry date on the bottle, weird to find hotmail addresses these days, they seem to have been extinct for years now

+1 This would be the correct dosage for 250 mg tablets.
