I'm wondering if the new neptune cor is made in China, and is there any pumps or equipment manufactured in the USA

Ofcourse it's made in China, all of Neptunes other products are. I'm not sure of pumps made in the US I think Danner Mag drives are made in the states but I'll have to double Check. Sicce pumps are made in Italy and there's a couple made in Germany but that's about it.

Can't speak for neptune's source as I have no official facts to go on. I'd say the motor block being made in China is a safe bet. So far as I'm aware all DC aquarium pumps commonly available are made in China except for Abyzz, red dragon, and tunze which are made in Germany and of course carry the price to match.

As far as AC pumps go there are some chinese made cheap submersibles out there, but most of the top name brands are using Italian made motor blocks by Eden, Sicce, or Askoll. The eheim universal hobby series is made in Germany as well. I'd say prevalence of Chinese made pumps in terms of hobby use is much higher on the DC pump side of the market than AC. I see very few tanks running anything other than italian or german made motors in submersible AC applications. I do see a ton of Chinese made DC pumps though and very few of the high end German DC models simply due to the massive price gulf favoring the cheaper option.

Made in China can mean lots of different things. It may be that some of the components are made there but subsequent assembly done elsewhere, or everything done there. It's mostly about labor arbitrage, and as long as there is adequate QC, there's no reason that the quality cannot be just as high as anywhere else. It also may be that even the uber priced German DC pumps are using chinese sourced components.

Therein lies the problem: adequate QC. It's almost always nonexistent in Chinese manufacturing. Wouldn't it be awesome to see a giant company like Neptune, which is an American company, turn around and actually manufacture their products here in America? Btw, I'm not some psycho conservative super patriot, I voted for Bernie Sanders, and I understand the business side of the argument, but as far as Quality goes, it would be worth the extra few bucks to be able to buy with confidence in the integrity and competence of its manufacturing process. Especially at a products initial release.

Adequate QC should be a most. Vast majority of components are made in China now a days. We are not talking about the material side (magnet/shaft/bearing etc.) as those things can be from places all over the world. We are talking the sub components that make the final product. There is motor block that is made in China, and there is also motor blocks that made from Germany of those Abyzz/Red Dragon pump. Again, you pay what you paid for.

COR for me is more like Mercedes/BMW trying to break into mid/low price tag DC pump market, with the China motor blocks encompassed along with their high reputation and controllability. Abyzz/RD are more like Rolls Royce/Ferrari/Lambo category to me. (They make their block in Germany and even coated the shaft with titanium...their controller are even beefier heavier than every DC pumps in the market...)

There are always a lot of half truths when this topic gets debated, particularly by people who mostly don't know what they are talking about. While QC may be nonexistent in companies like Jebao it certainly is not in other industries .... it's principally a function of the priorities that the 'brand' owner requires. Having worked in the manufacturing industry, much of it with Chinese contract manufacturers, I have seen many different choices made in terms of quality - for some companies it's a priority, for others it's not. Look on the back of any Apple device: designed in California, assembled in China. I agree that it would be nice if a company like Neptune assembled their gear in the US (though many of the components would still be made in China because, in many cases, there are no domestic sources), though would customers be happy with a consequential premium? While labor differentials have declined over time, they still favor China.

I am by no means an expert in manufacturing, all I'm saying is it would be epic to see a top notch company like Neptune lead the way in favoring American manufacturing, and it would be interesting to see the difference, if any, in quality of the products.

I'm not a big fan of using the country of manufacturing as a sign of either good or bad quality. You can surely find examples of both in every country. Americans aren't better or worse workers than Chinese workers. But the company will deliver the quality it chooses with the profit margin that it wants.

made in China and they charge arm and a leg for it imagine if it was actually made in USA where the workers actually make more than 50 cents an hour how much more that pump would cost

As someone who has actually toured the Neptune Systems facility. I have seen the assembly of Neptune electronic products. If I recall, even the circuit boards were made in the US. Considering they are in Silicon Valley, they certainly have the resources. Pumps are usually made in China, ItalThe WAV pump motors are made in Italy but Neptune supplied the monitoring electronics that are embedded in the pumps. The COR motor is most likely sourced out of the country as well but I would bet that Neptune also supplied the electronics as well as offered a lot to the overall design.. Regardless of where the products are made, really matters is that you have a US company that will 100% stand behind the products when you need them to.

That's awesome to hear that Neptune does that much production in the states. Thank you for the info, I love all of Neptunes products, and wouldn't dream of running a system without an Apex. But I do remember when the 2016 Apex first came out there was so many problems initially, I always figured it was because of glitches carried over from China. I may have been mistaken. I totally understand that business demands the largest profit margin possible and most companies will outsource as a result. I am by no means going to stop buying Neptune products or anything. I also don't want to buy the first batch of COR pumps though either, lol.

What most people do not realise is that the Chinese can manufacture absolutely anything to any degree of quality that you may require, but you have to pay for it.
Most don't want to pay for the higher quality and opt for lower or just outright rubbish and there lies the problem.
That is where the myth of being manufactured in China = lower quality eminates from, western culture wants it all and wants it all at a low price.

It’s not necessarily about quality, it’s about ethics. You know the companies who outsource to places with minimal labor laws only care about profit and significantly upcharge the product compared to the extremely low wages they are paying to those who make it. Not to mention the workers who suffer for it. Money truly does run the world.

About the same really, but THEIR profit margins would be MUCH smaller.

Is it really about ethics though, the vast majority don't give a second thought about the workers that toiled to make the latest must have item.
Take the iPhone in the US, it's manufactured by Foxconn in China who have over 1 million employees, most of them work on pretty crappy production lines 12 hours a day for little money.
Now in the US where the vast majority of iPhones are sold, how many do you think give a seconds thought to the people who toiled to give them thier new shiney trinket?, i would bet it's very low.
Ethics come into it hardly ever in today's consumer driven world.
I'm not aiming this at anyone, it's just how it is and i'm as bad in that i never give a second thought to how my newest purchace got to me.

It looks to be a solid product. I think at this point most equipment has parts from all over. The real issue is QC and whether or not the company is going to stand behind it, and I think Neptune's rep shows that they will stand behind the product.

If you are talking about some aquarium equipment manufacturers, then that may be true; if manufacturing more broadly, it's not true.
