Two years ago I would rarely see a coral description including the word “rainbow†and I knew I was in for a treat. Now it seems like every other coral is a rainbow chalice, rainbow acan, rainbow plate and when I click on the link or picture it’s a let-down 9 out of 10 times.

I always thought a rainbow coral had 7+ colors/shades.

Is this bugging anyone else or do I need to get a life?

Yeah... "rainbow" over used for sure. Not saying that the corals they are trying to describe with "rainbow" aren't nice, but definitely not full rainbow colors.

Yes, however for the true special corals only the name "double rainbow" will do, and I have yet to see one worthy of that title.

I agree over used term what's good guide line at least 3 distinct colors??
Post em up if u got em

Double rainbow? What does it mean!

A little birdie told me that the "ultra" classifications are the 4+ color corals

Correct, 3+ distinct colors is classified as rainbow. I don't think vendors set this standard but instead it seems as if suppliers from Aussie and Indo have set the standard. Many wholesale lists will show rainbow as 3 or more colors.

Every coral is a rainbow then?

Sorry I should have been clear on what I was saying. It use to be 3 or more distinct color in the coral and that made it a rainbow. Now if the coral has 2 color it's labels as a rainbow. It's way over used.
