Is this acceptavle for a Red Sea Reefer?

Bought a Reefer xl 425 a month ago, just wanted to know if this is normal and if is should do something.

Noticed it today, already had filled the reefer. Ans yes its the seam between the front and bottom panel.

Definitely not acceptable, but I think you know that. Let them know. And tell them how much you'd rather share the story of how they made it right, when they do... as opposed to a story of spending 4-figures, only to get a damaged tank and poor after-sales service. I hope this works out for you. Keep us posted.

I have a 425 and I wouldn’t dare try and keep that. Did you buy it new or used?
I find it hard that they didn’t catch it when they filled it. They check these tanks over very well. Good luck with this!

Bought it new, already had a small issue with the silicone. However after contacting Red Sea they told me it is fine as long the silicone between the glass is perfect, and i believe them. Today i found out about the silicone on the bottom of the tank.

However the silicone on the bottom isnt perfect between the glass. this is the right front corner.

This is the bottom.

I hope the tank wont leak until this gets resolved.

If you already have two spots where your silicone is screwed up, then my guess there will be more. Trust me when I say, get them to fix this now before you get it fully loaded with everything you want and then it leaks...
not saying it’ll leak! But I wouldn’t take a chance on a new tank!

I've heard that RS stands tend to sag in the middle when under load and that it can cause this to happen. I would not accept this in a brand new tank.

Only on the 750.....
A 425, there isn’t any way, tank isn’t that big.

There is no sag, something just went wrong with the silicone job.

Lol. Red Sea says that silicones fine , there treating you like you don’t know any better. That silicone isn’t fine and looks horrible for spending a few thousand on a tank. It should be literally perfect. Not missing here and there.
My Red Sea 425 had an end panel pushing out , and the silicone was showing obvious signs of stress. They told me it was fine, a week later, started to separate. Took my 2 months to get a replacement.

That's not acceptable for a new tank, especially one as expensive as a Red Sea Reefer. I would request a replacement and nothing less.

Here are some pictures of the bottom seam from my RSR 170 I bought used earlier this year. It's almost identical to yours. Additionally, the silicone around the overflow is not sealed properly and has trapped sand underneath it. It's only a 34 gallon tank, so I wasn't too worried about it, but Red Sea needs to locate the source of this shoddy workmanship and address it ASAP.

My 425 came in the first week of 2020, it literally came in perfect without a single problem! Will the return line did slowly split but they sent a new one within days.
Red Sea will do everything right, only if you ask them though..... don’t let it go out of warranty and then try to say something. You had a year to get a new one. Make sure you do!

The response from Red Sea was astonishing, after providing them with the pictures and even some new ones they responded:

I don't see anything to worry about on your pictures. If you have one on which something is visible, please just send it. I'm still waiting for assistance from a colleague, thank you for your patience(this is about the Reefleds).

My anwser:
As can be seen on the picture below, the silicone has separated between between the bottom and front glasses. You pointed out ’’As long as the seal is perfect between both glasses, there's no point to worry about’’.
On the picture you can clearly see that the seal between the two glasses iis not perfect, it is just bad there is a hole in it, I have marked the hole on the picture.
It looks like they tried to re apply the silicone sealant however this didn’t work and the seal has come off.
After posting the same pictures as i have shown you on a forum i have been advised to drain my tank, because this seal will fail.
After showing my pictures at the store where i bought my reefer they also advised me to contact Red Sea.
As this is a manufacturer’s defect in material and workmanship i am kindly requesting a replacement of the product.
Lets be honest, after spending € 1.599,00 on a reef tank i should be able to expect quality. I bought a Red Sea reefer because i wanted te best quality i could get. Would you really tell me this is the quality Red Sea aims for?
Beacause we both know this seal is likely to fail.

They’re going to slap the $@&/ out of you.
You got your point across! The fact they did that tells me that can’t be the same guy you talked too. I bet it’s someone else with the same email chain. It’s crazy they said this because when I had to deal with customer service, they were awesome!

In case you need another opinion-absolutely not acceptable. You’re paying top dollar for reef ready tank. Anything less than a replacement is unacceptable in my opinion.
