hi y’all!
I’m back with a new problem!
Since the decision to let Ick run it’s course through the 20g tank I have, my LFS suggested I dose Prime to get my nitrates down (tested 35 ppm), and run Purigen. I didn’t research this and trusted them.
This is my beautiful, usually 7” across with actual BUBBLE tips, RBTA. I dosed the Prime at noon today. This picture was just taken.
Is it a goner?

It does not look great, but it is not done until it is done. So as long as its foot is attached then all you can do is a massive water change and see what happens. If it literally starts falling apart than you want to pull it asap.

I did a 30% water change yesterday to remove the last chemical they gave me, will it trigger a nitrogen cycle to do 2 big WCs close together?

Agreed .. its still attached and got color .. just want too add if iT falls apart and you have too pull it .. run Some Carbon on Your tank !

No it wont cause another cycle .. and 35ppm. Nitrates is not that bad .. my tank runs great at 50 ppm .. i also use prime in my rodi water and ATO ... without problems .. so how Much did you dose ???

50! I felt like my xenia and BTA didn’t hate 35...
I dosed 1 capful on my 20g of Prime! Thought I’d ease into it...

I once had a full tank crash but instead of doing a 90 gallon (100%) water change, I took the anemone out and put it in a 5 gallon bucket with freshly made salt water and a heater. I honestly dont recall how I got water to move around but I probably put a small powerhead that was covered in some way. The temp was the same as the tank. It immediately began to recover. The crash wiped out most of my tank but the nem survived.

this is a great idea!!. How long can it be kept in that bucket? Will ammonia build like new tank water would?

Keep in mind, they do open there mouths like this when they are expelling excess zooxanthellae. If ,you have had excessive nitrates(>20ppm) for a long time, expect the Nem to build large amounts of zooxanthellae and need to expell some, mine did this weekly.

Hes attached too the rock .. so Youd have too pull the rock as Well .. i wouldnt recomend trying too get him loose unless he detaches him self !

Good point!!!! If he detaches, I’ll still try my best to help him! That’s when I’ll use the bucket method.

Yeah nems are great survivers as long as it’s foot is gripping it’s trying to survive, mine went through a powerhead and it looks better now than when I bought it, and also my neighbor ripped one in half trying to detach it from a rock to sell it, the dude took the half at a way cheaper price his half survived and so did my neighbors few months later it was back to normal

I didn’t realize it was THIS open! Will it adjust to the nitrates, overall, or did you work your nitrates down?

I don’t think Prime does anything for nitrates, it’s for ammonia and for conditioning non-rodi water. That said I do not believe Prime would hurt your nem unless over dosed.

I would take the advice given so far but I would add that you either have another issue that is affecting your nem or I would ask how much Prime did u add?

What about a possible shock from Purigen? I put some in a sock and put it in the HOB.
I added only 1 capful of Prime, way less than they recommended!

Have you been feeding it .. if so .... what ... it might be regurgitating food or something ..? Just a thought

Yeah the Puritan can strip out nutrients too fast and make everything unhappy. 1 capful shouldn’t have caused this.

That's the beauty of it. Ammonia was a non issue b/c water changes were cake. You just have to make sure salinity and temperature are the same. You can even get 2 buckets and a bowl - it will be as easy as swap em out. I did it with just one and kept it in there for about 2 weeks?? I also had clowns, one of which committed suicide by diving out one night when I didnt have an adequate cover. The clowns made it stressful for me but w/o fish this is much easier to do.
As for detaching, I've never had issues pulling nems off. I just take it SUPER slowly. I think I spent close to an hour once, when transfering tanks. Having said that, maybe you can just xfer the rock into the bucket. Just make sure to do the water changes frequently - at least at first.
