Is this DOA? (Nems)

hi everyone, we got a nem via fedex this morning, and it doesn't look so hot. while technically not 'dead' do you think this counts as a DOA claim? this is a hard issue for us, as there's such a breadth between healthy and competely dead.

the seller saw these pics, and says it's fine and healthy.

i'll post a post-acclimation pic and a follow up as well.

From what I can see it looks like this piece was just cut in half.

Assuming that the foot is not torn and that's just some sand and rock, I would think it would be okay after acclimation. BTA tips deflate which is normal... mine go back and forth between plump bulbs and skinny tentacles and they've been with me for over 2 years.
If you don't have clowns to host it, you'll need to feed it every once in a while.

From the last photo, it does look really strange. The foot looks cut or ripped. Sorry, hard to tell, but I don't think I've ever seen them look quite like that.

I agree that the beautiful BTA appears to have recently been cut in half. I know it is safe to do if one knows proper procedure (I'll never cut one in half and I do know how) but it needed time to heal which was not done IMHO so this one is double stressed yet healthy. It would be good to seclude it to let it heal and start to thrive before adding to a DT.

yes, the seller said the foot was torn when removing from rock

Their appears to be sections of the foot left and what is left, is intact. It should survive if you put it in stable water parameters. It will need some time to attach to something though.

I've seen really bad cuts survive before and this one isn't close to anywhere I would consider a poorly cut BTA.

Did the seller disclose that the that the foot was torn before you agreed to purchase it? Seems like something I'd want to make sure healed fine before I offered it up for sale...

yes @zack801, the seller said the foot was torn last night, but later said it had puffed up and shipped it.
