Is this Flukes? Blue Tang

@Jay Hemdal little off topic question. If you 2 QT tanks running copper with same start dates, both tanks for 30 days. Does moving a fish from one tank to another matter? Wondering if I am able to relocate a fish being picked on to the other tank which is more peaceful.
That's a very good question. If the fish will end up in the same display tank, I don't think there is any added danger from doing that. If the fish in each tank came from different vendors, then there could be an issue with one tank having a particular disease that the other does not have.

When you did the freshwater dip, did you use a black container so you could see if any flukes came off during the process? If your fish has flukes you'll definitely see them drop off (not necessarily all of them, but a good portion).
Most flukes cannot be seen by eye without magnification. Very few types that you can.

Good to know, I've always been able to see them (thanks for the info).
Neobenedenia and other capsalids are the ones you can see with your naked eye - they look like little gray scales when they die and fall off the fish. Gill flukes are really tiny and when they die, they contort, making them tough to ID. Normal Gyrodatcylus skin flukes look like tiny bits of “dust” in the dip water - you can see them, but you need a microscope to really tell what they are….

I honestly don't know what they have but with yawning and scratching both happening my gut is a strain of flukes that cannot be seen by the eye. However when I did the FW dip there was a massive number of white roundish dots that appeared all over my blue tang. I will say the symptoms have really cleared up today... So I think they did have flukes and prazi dosage #1 did a nice kick to them. I am doing prazi dosage #2 in a few days. I've done all of this on top of copper because the fish also had confirmed marine ich. So deal with both Ich and flukes at the same time I decided to chance the bacterial bloom. While I did have a minor bloom, it went away very fast and never caused a spike in ammonia or nitrites. I have also read up and humblefish saying that UV sterilizers are okay to use with chelated copper so I may turn mine on to combat future blooms after 72 hours of prazi.

All in all my fish are looking much better and I am confident that I wont have any causalities at this point. I really thought my blue tang was dead... but she's made quite the recovery.

30% water change and now I am beginning prazipro dosage #2. Several fish are still displaying scratching symptoms, including blue tang. Copper Power still at 2.25ppm. Will update again in 72 hours. If scratching is still occurring after 72 hours I will be very confused. Is there another disease beyond ich, velvet, or flukes that could cause fish to scratch their heads on rocks?

By my calculation, the timing of your second treatment is off: should be 7 to 10 days and you are at 5 days. You will then need a third treatment to control any fluke eggs, if the species involved is an egg layer.

Hmmm. dang. The instructions on the bottle are a bit confusing saying effective for 5-7 days. I thought that you could dose and then after 72 hours do a water change, wait 2 days, and then re-dose.

So a third round of prazi at day 15 would be the best remedy for my mistake?

This is one instance where I go against label instructions - they just don't take into account the possibility of flukes eggs (which prazi does not kill). What you need to do is kill the adult flukes, then wait just long enough for any flukes eggs to hatch and reattach to the fish, but before they have time to lay their own eggs, then dose them again. I used to space this at 7 days, but have seen some eggs get through, so changed that to 10. Still, this is not a perfect method, and I've had to dose some tanks three times to break the life cycle.

As Jay pointed out- with tubs and ammonia. If you cant accomodate a hang on power filter, even a canister unit will suffice. Also assure especially with Prazi that you are furnishing a good oxygen supply via airstone. Prazi may affect appetite, so dont get nervous if its eating less.
As for those who said they saw flukes fall off, that one is new to me.
You will see what looks like fish scales or sesame seeds on the bottom of bucket which would be flukes. Follow recommendations by Jay who has you on the right path to treatment.

Okay, so my best bet is to now wait 10 days (since I unfortunately dosed today already) and that will be the third dosage which will kill the eggs if I understand correctly.

HOPEFULLY kills the eggs - the timing on this is tricky and nobody can know for certain.

As I had mentioned, hyposalinity works also. It has the additional benefit of controlling those turbellarian issues that I mentioned on Thursday...

I've been researching how to properly do hyposalinity. I may give it a go if I don't see any improvement after next week.

I’ve had flukes twice. They are hard to see on the fish, except on the eyes, but are quite easy to see after a fresh water dip. They look almost exactly like sesame seeds.

If you decide to go that route, let me know and I can give you instructions.....

Okay I will, I really appreciate that. Is hypo hard on fish? I wonder if I should do it while I have the fish under observation for 2 weeks following the completion of copper treatment. As an added precaution... All this work to only get ich back in DT would...suck.

Personally, I find hypo to be a bit tougher on fish than coppersafe.
I don’t think 2 weeks of hypo is of much benefit, the normal treatment course is 30 to 35 days.

Okay. I will wait and see what happens at the end of copper / prazi treatment. The only fish still displaying symptoms is my Blue tang... no more spots or anything, but she's still scratching occasionally. After my third round of prazi ill do on 11/31 (10 days after last dose), I will expect things to be gone by 12/7. If not then I will likely abandon ship and begin hypo treatment.

12/7 will also be about 30 days in copper treatment. If symptoms still present themselves then I am either looking at a behavioral habit or a prazi resistant flukes strain. If the hypo treatment doesnt work at that point I'll probably chalk up to behavioral and return fish to DT after fallow period ends about 1/7/2022, giving them about 30 days in hypo. The major thing was getting rid of marine ich which appears to have been done successfully. Thanks to your help.

Sounds like a solid plan.....
