I got my yellow tang 2 days ago, and treated with api general cure and melafix for a lawnmower blenny passed away. Does general cure kill ich? If not I guess I’ll get ich x

I really don’t want this fish to pass.

thanks for your help

I have copper but don’t want to pull out another tank and do a ton of water changes and further stress the fish out

I also need to get him to eat.
He may pick on a rock every now and then but he needs some nutrition

General Cure does not treat ich.

I can't see the pic very well to see if ich or velvet is present though. Pic too small on my phone.. plus you don't want to post pics taken in blue lights.

Best to pull the fish out and quarantine and treat.

Also, could I use ich x with general cure?
I've never used ich-x... I've only used copper.

But if it is ich, then all fish need to be treated in a hospital tank. And then your main tank should be fallow for 76 days to clear it out of the main tank.

This is the qt tank
I have the general cure as I thought there might have been an internal parasite

does ich x or kick ich absorb into rock/substrate?

Definitely hard to tell from the photo. Almost looks like a grain of sand stuck to him. Like said above I would try and get a better picture from the side with white lights. Will help with better diagnosing. Also ICH X does not do much for freshwater fish. Would QT fish with copper power if Ich is present.

Best option and known working option is copper.

For an empty treatment tank, I have one but I need more salt, I need a source of bacteria

if I put the rock in, it will seep in and not be at a therapudic level

Also GC can be successfully added to the tank with only copper meds present.

The rocks and sand will absorb some copper and leach later. Best to just leave what rock or sand you use in QT.

So can general cure go together with kick ich?
I dont think copper is really and option and I don’t have the test kit for it and it would cause more stress to the fish

I would not run GC with kick Ich. But I do highly recommend using copper power and a properly test kit to monitor. As for stress related to copper it would be the same situation your running with the different medications now. Copper is harsh but not a harsh as most believe it to be.

So should I wait until internal parasite treatment is done and do a water change/add carbon before I add another med?

Let’s start here if he’s is already in a QT then try and get a good picture with the white lights so we can get a good diagnosis. Then we can determine which route to take.
