Is this Metal Halide worth…

It’s about time you go shopping for bulbs and stop spreading mis information, we had this discussion in another thread.
Get bent What mis information. Your discussion must missed the vendors I showed all currently have halides in stock. add reef brite plus many more. not hard at all to find ballasts. Maybe jump off the brs is the gospel bandwagon.

Yet I had over a dozen delivered this month. Phoenix sells their bulbs on Amazon. I use their 150 de 14 k bulbs They have them in stock now.
9 left.. I'll be curious to see what happens after those 9 are gone.
Hey I'm just going by current facts.
Try to find the 250w ones.
150's don't do the o/p any good.

champion has these 250 watt 10 k in stock, for 15 bucks they are not terrible

Yea maybe someday they will be back in stock..

now Chinese bulbs on ebay..OK fine.
And hybrids..
That bottom light ingot off Facebook marketplace also. I got it with a frag tank for like $60 I think. The one I have has 4 cords each side of T5s, the MH and the LEDs all had their own cords. I want to do an old school build.

Right Chinese bulbs.. POINT was it is not as easy or readily available as some suggest.. :)
May change any day is also possible.
Shouldn't be hard since EU gave them a "pass" as to being phased out and Calif too.
Some market shift is occurring for some reason. Shouldn't be this hard to find.. but it is.

Most reef goods even the name brands are made in China. The Phoenix are made in Japan. giesemann is German. Etc

Not to mention there is tons of used halide gear out there. From the aquarium and growing hobbies. Pretending halides dead is only for you die hard led junkies

Nobody said it was dead.. Just err "difficult" or limited choices..
Its death will be a manuf. choice. Most likely ending up with just Chinese "OK" bulbs (cheap price though) and one or 2 fixtures. With the possible exception of uber priced imports from Geisseman and ATI.
Hey in the recent past there were dozen upon dozens of bulb/reflector/ballast choices.. Now, not so much.

Reef Brite.. ONE bulb?

Still not real sure what materials are the problem. Is there an aluminum shortage I don’t know about? First it was the demand was just insurmountable. “The public aquaria and research institutions” were just buying fixtures and bulbs up by the thousands. Flying off the shelves.

Now the units are all discontinued and maybe they’re developing some radical new tech, as is the hope of some hobbyists, but the only actual information is “we can’t get materials to even build anything”.

I don’t have a dog in the fight, and from the outside looking in, the writing is on the wall, from a supply standpoint (I am not discussing a cost or efficacy difference). BRS has made effort to encourage people to not even consider MH use, I will admit/agree. Yes you can still find gear here and there. It’s hard not to see that the tech is going the way of the Buffalo and whatever gear people are finding now will dry up sooner than later. Most likely sooner.

It’s a now problem people need to prepare for, not a “maybe when my small children grow up into adulthood and want to get into the hobby they might have a problem finding an abundance of halide gear” situation.

I’m surprised that there is a debate about the difference between DE & SE 250W bulbs?

OP has a single ended bulb fixture that isn’t going to fit the DE bulbs that are more commonly available for now? They were available from Osram recently but I think they were closing them out?
