Is this new pricing for Tropic Marin Pro Reef?

I just switched from IORC to TMPR 2 months ago. I picked up a 200 gallon bucket for $99. I am almost out so I decided to pick up another a week ago. Everywhere was sold out. So I set up an auto email when it was back in stock. I just received the email it was. I went to place the order and it is now $114.99.

I did end up buying it but is this just because of the current economy of shipping shutdowns + supply and demand or is this going to be the new price?

If so, I might just have to make a switch to something else. That is going to eat a hole in my wallet real quick.

Yea, I got that Email too, that’s a crazy price increase. Pure greed when times are tough. Since I couldn’t get any, I’ve started the switch to RS.

As someone with multiple businesses tied to shipping, I can almost guarantee it is not greed. The economics of the supply chain are getting crushed right now. Let’s not always assume the worst in people

Yes, but that's not all, it will help your kids do their homework, do the dishes, and walk the dog.

On a serious note. Good salt, mixes clean and consistent. Is it worth the asking price over IO? That's for the consumer to decide.

I sure hope so! No, I used IORC for years but was always sceptical about the crud at the bottom of my holding tank. The main reason was my inconstant mixing levels. I run a SPS dominate reef at around 8dKh. IORC always mixed up around 10-11 dkh. I dose kalk also it caused my calcium to be around 500+.

As someone that can say has been using it for near 8 years (changed to IO for 3 and went back) they have actually been pretty solid in price. i can remember buying it around 2009 for $89 for 200 gallons. At one time I had enough buckets stacked in my garage if counted would tally over 3k. I had to get rid of them before my wife caught on

IO is a great product. Got me thru the 80’s and 90’s. As mentioned, it has too many binders or other things that leave behind that brown residue. With TM I still have the same 2 Brute for 7 years now cleans as a whistle inside thanks to TM. And I let it mix for days.

I did notice recently TM now has a synthetic salt. Not sure what that is. If you time it right thou you can stil score a Tm price for 99$. Juts takes time

I did mention in another thread I started esv salt in my 75 build. So far very impressed with this as well. Very pure. It is like mixing pure salt and then dosing the pure salt from the start.

Based on cost per gallon break down, it's pennies more per gallon than IO.
I used IO for years, and I like how TMPro mixes clean and evenly from top to bottom of the bucket.
Worth the cost increase over IO in my opinion.

OP, I'd bet the increase in cost is due to shipping vs cost to make.

The brown crud? From what I understand it is a binding agent for metals. Which is a VERY good thing!

I understand the higher alk but changing 10-20 percent isn’t going to cause all spikes and in an sps dominate tank that higher all actually helps so it doesn’t go down too far. In my rank, I run 7-8. There times when it got in to the low sixes from not dosing or doing water changes, and mine is lightly stocked but have a ton or coralline algae.

I get it trust me. I used IO for years when starting out in the early 00's then switched to IORC when I started stocking more demanding corals. I get the differences and to each their own. I made a decision to switch and so far I am happy. Just a little curious on the price increase.

Unfortunately, with running multiple QT tanks for fish and coral, plus the DT, using TMP became cost-prohibitive very quickly. So I switched to IO for the whole operation.

What I noticed, everything grows OK (all LPS/softies/hammers) but man... Mixes all over the place. Dkh is fairly stable, but Ca and Mg is a crap-shoot....380-500 and 1400-1580 respectively. Plus, looks like hotdog water (I usually strain through a sock when adding to DT).

Once everything settles and I'm not running multiple tanks with constant WCs, I'll be switching back to TMP.

My last purchase of TMPro from BRS was $99. Also bought locally for $99. Noticed that MarineDepot is now selling it for $115. BRS is out so maybe their price will change but I can’t believe Marine Depot‘s normal price would be $15 over BRS.

Same here. Just curious if this is temporary or the norm going forward.
