I picked up this alveopora at my lfs today. Got it home, acclimated it then did a Bayer dip. Within minutes of putting it in the tank it started releasing this slime stuff. Is that normal?

How long does it usually take for them to open back up? Is it just me or do a lot of the little holes look empty now?

I personally never dip unless I know there's bad guys. Not recommending it. Just not much experience with it

Maybe the bayer. Wierd that it didn't melt until entering your tank though. Wish I could be more help. Sry :-(

Some of the holes look like they still have polyps inside. Do you think there's any chance of them repopulating?

it could be the dip I wont use such harsh chems. I go with coral RX and inspection QT for a few weeks then dip again before going in tank

I use bayer on all my new incoming frags and I've never seen anything like this. Note there is a few different bayer chems and the others will kill coral. And depending on how long you let the coral sit in the dip and how potent the dip was it could have make the coral die. I don't let it sit longer than 5-10 min in the dip. Any longer I've noticed the coral was stressed.

I let it sit 10 minutes in the Bayer but then I swished it in fresh ro/di and let it sit for a few minutes in two containers of tank water to rinse the Bayer off.

Well, freshwater dips will stress corals to near death. Probably the swish in RO/DI was just too much stress for it. You should rinse in tank water only.

I will definitely do it that way from now on. I saw that in a YouTube video when I was researching bayer dipping.

On another note I was doing a bit of googling and it sounds like the fact that the skeleton still has color is reason for hope. I read where one person said their's didn't open up for a week after putting it in. I'll give it a week and see what happens.
