Okay, I’m out of space for sterile tanks. I have a 20 gallon tank that’s never been used but I’m afraid it’s not large enough to house all the fish. Any objections to bleaching two 30 gallon brute cans and using those as a sterile “tank”?

Okay. Is bleach acceptable to use on the tanks they’re currently being treated in? I can move them over to the brutes for a few days while I sterilize the tanks to place them back in.

Otherwise, I’ll be going to pick up a 75 gallon tank but I’d really like to avoid doing that.

it's not as bad as you think. remove all the fish, put into a holding tank with copper power at 1.00 ppm, then increase to 1.75ppm over 3 days. stay there for 30 days. keep display empty for 76 and there you go.

Okay, copper at 1.44 and 1.47 according to Hanna. I’ll be raising this to 2.0 over the next two days.

As far as the fish, everyone is doing well. Eating aggressively and seem pretty stress free in both tanks. I had a pretty bad bacterial bloom last night before bed so I added some air stones and it seems the additional surface agitation helped prevent any oxygen problems over night.

While I’m treating for ich, anything else I should go ahead and hit them with just in case?

Remember- if you have the extra tanks- you can stop copper at 14 days as long as you transfer them to a fresh tank (and clean equipment) instead of 30 days. People seem to have issues running copper at the 20-25 day mark.

Yes to the bleach. I’d transfer them to brutes, bleach sterilize, and then thoroughly rinse in RODI, then air dry. I actually put a small desk fan in my 10 gallons- dries them out faster. You can do it in 1 day if you force the dry step with a fan.

Yes, you can do a 14 day copper power burst, and then transfer to a clean sterilized tank (a lot of people aren't insane like me, who have an extra 20 long sitting near an exercise room door that always gets my wife's chin....another story however).

Lol, yeah- my 39 gallon bowfront I got for my birthday 2 years ago got returned a week later and I now have 11 tanks...

Haha. Yea I’m at 4 in the basement plus the sump. Two 40breeders and two 20 gallon. I wasn’t expecting this, though, and I think I’d get run out of the house if I bring more aquariums home this month.

It is so dang frustrating to read story after story about infected fish and almost makes a guy not want to chance adding fish to your already presumed "clean" tank! I recently added 5 fish to my system which I did not copper treat but they were QT'd for 35days and received 2 treatments of General Cure during that time. All are fine after 25 days in display (well the Purple Queen Anthias did not make it but that was due to never really getting eating) and optimistically hoping we'll stay that way. I was prepared to do TTM if things went that way and I now besides my BioCube 29 which is the main qt tank, also have three 20g longs just in case! Again, Good Luck to you and your Fish!

I came up in the tank and the mueller butterfly is swimming upside down. I jumped to conclusion and panic thinking maybe the copper had an effect on him so I removed him and put him in a tank by himself with NSW. I’m hoping he makes it.

To follow up, butterfly fish passed a few minutes ago. I do believe it was an isolated incident and perhaps didn’t respond to the copper very well. Let’s hope.

Everything else seems very good therefore I have every reason to remain optimistic
