Is Vibrant trying to kill my lions

I’m so sorry for the death of your beautiful lions.

Did you just have normal algae that you were trying to kill? Or was it possibly Dino’s or Golden Algae which may release toxins when they die?

I wish manufacturers of these products needed to list the ingredients. It would make it a lot easier to decide to use it or not.

The tank was actually in good shape, I had just become so busy(or lazy) that I was just trying to take short cuts. My 210g had gotten disgusting with algae and it did such a remarkable job cleaning it up I thought I would use it in the lions reef.

I have had it in my cabinet for months and have been afraid to use it.

I just dosed today and then read your post and regretted dosing it.

I don’t have lions and everything so far seems ok, but it’s only been 6 hours.

How long after dosing did you know you had a problem?

I had no issues in my 210g that I knew of, my 12 year old volitan passed but he had been waffling for months. The volitan really had been on his death bed for months so I thought nothing of it. I have angels, tangs, and even a dog face puffer in my 210g; and puffers can be sensitive as well. It's been at least 3 months since I had started on the 210g. I did a weekly dose for 4 week. Everything seems fine and the tank is sparkling.

2 days after I dosed the lions reef they all came up with cloudy eyes.

I have used vibrant for several weeks and didn't kill anything. Which means nothing, I didnt have a lion then.
I added a common iron supplement for macro and killed a yellow tang. I go looking after the fact and found out I wasn't the only one. Then there were other people on R2R it happened to.

Certain animals are sensitive to some things that will bother nothing else. I am not sure how you would find out beforehand.

I have a lion now so the unopened bottle of Vibrant I had has gone into the trash.

Thanks for the warning for those that have lions. I wonder what ingredient/bacteria would cause this to happen In 2 days?

Vibrant says its bacteria, I have to think that it's something more.

It is algaecide. A few of the locals in our club had some tested in a local lab - there is no bacteria in it. They are liars. It is UWCs product and they get to keep their secrets about what is in it, but I wish that they would not lie about it.

When fish die months or a year after the fact due to organ failure processing the poisons of an algaecide, no one will be the wiser. Lions are just one of the species that react more quickly to such poisons.

Hmm. I’m curious why you are feeding ghosties and Molly’s ? Those are pretty poor choices of food!

When I kept lions, I fed a much broader diet of krill, shrimp, chromis, silversides, and stops/small chunk of wild caught fish such as snapper. All in moderation of each other. Lions are a bit more delicate than most think...

Really, that's why no one can keep these species much more than a year. I'm so sick of people with no knowledge what so ever in keeping dwarf and medium size lions alive at all, commenting on diet. Perhaps you didnt read how long I had them, see how healthy their organs looked in the pic, with very little fat deposit. If you want to keep these lions alive, that's exactly what you feed them.

lol ya cos your the one only “expert” of keeping lions. Sorry but if you know lions and feeding saltwater fish fish in general you should know that mollies are one of the worst fish to feed. That’s common knowledge.

Mollies are the preferred live fish can you feed. Salt water fish will spread disease and the fat and protein structure is almost identical as mollies are a brackish fish which lives and breeds in as much as 1.017sg in the wild.

People that keep the types of lions, scorps, and ribbon eels long term as I do, will feed mollies. People that just regurgitate want they have heard or read with no first hand knowledge, will say mollies are bad food.

If you feed a variety of fresh fish, preferably fatty fish, and you also said you fed chromis. Without the bones or shell on shrimp it is also difficult to keep longterm. People today are not keeping these fish much more than a year.

Krill and most varieties of silversides contains thiaminese which will bind vitimin B1. Hikara brand silversides is a variety of fish species which does not contain thiaminese.
