So I have corals that are Browning, some are normal color, and some have slowly lost tissue. About 5 months ago I changed my sump with a new one. When I changed my sump i took out my sand and lr.. now I'm having the issues started above along with some air algae.

Alk 14.2
Mg 1470
Cal 475
Po4 .05
Nitrate last tested .05

Now I know my alk, mg, and cal are high. My po4 and nitrate arent all that high. What else would cause my issues. My sump is bare bottoms with cheato that melted away 2 weeks ago and now have a small piece left. I have 2 bricks of marine pure. And I was having an issue with dino in sump only. Dino is now gone now. Should I add sand and more LR to my sump?

.05 nitrate with 14.2 alk could be your issue, asking you corals to grow super fast but not giving them enough to eat.

High alk browns out SPS.

Low nutrients and bacteria / can lead to Dino's.
So what nutrients would I be low on. I just added some bio spira. Also been adding fritz monster 360 to break down sludge got only 30ml every 2 weeks

Start feeding something like Red Sea "Reef Enery" or feed your fish LRS "Reef Frenzy".

So basically feed my tank more to feed corals, and grow more bacteria
Yeah,
You don't want your water column too clean, like stripped out, pure lab water.

Sounds good thanks. Guess I'll feed more but do it slow so my po4 and nitrate dont go up

check the salt you are using, some are not the best for reefs with an alk of 14* you are either dosing incorrect or using a crazy salt.

Personally , I would ride it out.
The tank just went through major surgery. So did the coral basically.

I would get the alk down by letting it fall naturally.
I’ll assume that is a testing or dosing error.

You probaly should also consider You par levels.

A note. I’d be concerned with usin the ca RX/ with kalk , Esp if the reactor is not yet tuned.

Big Time.

If you lower the alk (7.5 - 8.5 dkh) the sps colors should come back, but it takes awhile.
What exactly are you basing this on? There are many tanks with elevated alkalinity that have gorgeous coloration in regard to SPS.

I used to run the Red Sea high SPS growth program with the Black Bucket at 12.5 dkh.
It did speed up the SPS growth but my colors browned out more so.

Red Sea Kev told me it was normal, to do that.

14.2 dkh is trough the roof for the long haul and no need of going that high, but I'd let it come down, own it's own.

You carbon dose above 9 dkh with low organics in your reef, and you'll bleach your sps.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
