When they show up, we're talking mission bay, from the shore. Sight fished from the boat docks and jedies.

I don't know anyone who has gone out for them specifically, but know they do make it up here in years the water is really warm.

That would be so much fun! Are you aware of any other species of fish that come up on the currents that would be of interest to reef keepers?

Look for cover, reefs, rocks or weed lines/trash. Triggers are mainly mollusk or invert eaters.

In Fl, if I can find one of those, I catch triggers. Smaller ones shallower and bigger ones in blue water.

I would climb down into the rock Jetties at Shinnecock Inlet on LI as a kid and hand-line critters out of still rock-pools. One time I pulled out a giant eel ~ about 5'.

Little late on the fish discussion. Definitely consider a White Cheek tang. Had one in my last tank and it was just an awesome fish.

And as far as gem tangs go; I was like you and wasn't overly impressed by them looks wise, but had one given to me by a buddy that was tearing his tank down. They are a lot cooler in person than what they are in pictures you see on the net. Don't discount them too fast.

I have nothing to add on the triggers since I have never kept one, and you keep fleshy LPS and zoas so the angels I like are out of the question.

Tank is coming along very well. Has to feel good to see some life in it.
