Items you regret purchasing...

Jebao RW pumps, anything Coralife(besides salt) and that fish feeder thing that is a plastic tube to get food to the bottom of the tank(forgot name).

30" t5/ho system. Spent over $230 on it upgraded to ati blubs added truelumen leds and used it for 1 week and can't even sell it for 100 shipped!

Marineland reef LEDs when they first came out they are just junk didn't grow anything

Probably the Apex. Not because its a bad product but because I am just a creature of habit. I like things simple. I am probably as old school as you can get. I will try new things but it takes a lot of convincing for me to trust them.
Wanna sell it?

I'm amazed that apex has showed up in this list. Id put apex on the top of my best purchases. For me id say i regret buying my led lights. I gave it a shot and didnt care for it, ended up going back to t5/MH

I think people regret the apex because what does it really do? My leds are on wifi... my temp doesn't change more than 2-3 degrees... and if your tank is running properly than levels shouldn't change unless something dies.. my power heads are on digital $20 timmers. It just seems like more of a show off toy than really having a purpose. Maybe I'm wrong..

I've kind of wondered the same thing. My ato is on float switches. My lighting on timers. Pumps run 24/7. Heater is plugged into a separate thermostat. Ph is controlled by kalk added to the ato sump. I realize there are more functions but I don't use them anyway.

My aquarium? This hobby is a money pit from the start! But really, it has to be cheaper powerheads. Upgraded to mp10's & still like brand new years later.

Thats a great answer. I burn out powerheads about 1 every 6 months.

Of course if you buy the apex as a timer it is a waste, but you should of know that. With my apex i have my ato built and running through apex using the breakout box, my gyre runs different profiles throughout the day (pulse, reverse, constant, all random and at different flows throughout the day), my hydras are set up and ran through apex (set color % through apex, turns off if temp rises to high), kalkwasser turns off if pH is to high, turns heater off if tank temp is above 78. Feed mode turns everything i want off at the press of a button. I get email and text alerts no matter where im at if my tank temp gets to high or low, same for pH, if i lose power, if my ato is on for to long. Also have leak detectors incase of a leak. I guess it depends on how you use it, but the sense of security it adds to a reef tank is unbeatable imo. No matter how long you been reefing, that one day where you forgot to leave the AC on during the summer or a power outage can ruin a whole tank. And the Apex is a fail safe at its most basic form and that itself is worth its value to me.

But back to the orginal question for me it would definetly have to be the CAD Lights gen 3 PLS-100 skimmer, that thing is the the worst. Worked way better for target practice then it ever did as a skimmer lol

Good Luck with it. The instructions read like a schematic for a rocket.

Amen to that, and I'm about tech savvy enough to get myself in trouble.

Seaclone skimmer, mistake I made over 10 years ago. Used it for about 2-3 months and went with AquaC. And the Jaebo Dp-4, maybe it was just mine but when you buy something and 1 out of 4 pumps does not work and then a week later another one died. Then come to find out the manufacturer does not warranty it. Thankfully my LFS ate the cost and allowed me to put a little more down and got 2 BRS 1.1mL pumps.

upgrading from a 24g to 60gal and everything that went with the 60. reactors, skimmers, pumps, lights yada, yada. That tank just never ran well, i still don't get it. Set up the old 24g again after two years and within a month everything looks MUCH better, no reactors, no skimmer, no "crap".

Hmmmm. There have sure been bigger wastes of money than others, like LEDs. I trusted fosters and smith to not sell junk equipment and be accurate with the description and I got expensive rubbish that would have been only suitable for fish only... But considering my reef is now full of discus I would have to say everything was a waste of money but the tank itself! Miracles makes a sweet tank.

Hydor pumps, marine land power heads. I've never regretted integrating my apex controllers into my systems. I can monitor and control anything related to my reefs while I'm away on vacation which is invaluable to me.
