Sooo... during the process of finishing my 600g DT I had all my corals in a QT tank. I had lost a big chunk of them when originally re-homing them and getting them back when I moved, but most of the gems were still alive.

I hired an electrician to install a new panel to service my new tank. It is directly adjacent to the QT tank. He must have bumped the heater control off the shelf it was on because I came home last night and the temperature probe was hanging outside the tank. The water was a milky white color and about 110 degrees. My heart sank. All the acros, montis, 3 years of top shelf acans I collected, gorgeous torches, everything completely toast. All the stuff I was SOOO excited to put in the new tank. Gone.

I could barely make it into work today I was soo bummed.

Anyways, I suppose talking about it helps.

That’s terrible. Unfortunately we have all had losses, but your situation sounds extra terrible. What I find that helps is trading locally. Times like this it works like an insurance policy. Sorry for the losses.

So sorry for your loss. Most of us have been there at one time or another and it just plain sucks. My most recent was having an 8 bulb 54w ati fixture with 2 reefbrites rip out of the Sheetrock and fall in tank. If you’re in ny area pm me for some free frags!

Did you tell the electrician? He might have insurance that would cover your loss. To me, that is property damage.

Sorry to hear about your loss, my heart dropped just thinking about what you went through I keep thinking we need a forum for coral donations especially in this case... to help folks get through these times and started up again. @revhtree @Peace River what are the chances of doing something like that.

So many folks today use contractors that have no insurance. I do too but I get them to sign a waiver for medical coverage.

Was he working in and around your reef?
I kind of took it he was directly working on your reef. If that's not grounds I'm not really sure what is?
I'd be on the phone filing a claim in the morning.
