Getting pretty sick and tired of my R*** ******** salt and the brown residue(and in some cases chunks of slime) that results from mixing up a batch of new water. Gonna bite the bullet and spend a few extra bucks on a brand that doesn't look disgusting when I mix it up. Any suggestions???

ESV salt has been the cleanest for me. Mixes extremely fast as well. Bit annoying having to add 4 different parts but it's pretty easy. Just takes a few minutes longer than other salts.

i have never had a problem with kent. i know alot of people around here use it and they have nothing bad to say about it. but then again that is all i have ever used in my tank

Reef Crystals doesn't do it too bad for me...I have to clean out my mixing tank maybe every few months maybe. Do you know if Instant Ocean does the same thing?

It seems like opinions really are like...um...

Everyone I know who uses AquaVitro is sold on it, myself included.

i am a firm believer in brightwell just has to mix longer i mix mine overnight

shouldn't you ALWAYS mix your salt overnight anyhow to let things chemically stabilize before adding to the tank?

You SHOULD but its not required. I've mixed as little as 4 hours with no side effect, however I always try to go at least 8+ hours...mostly overnight though.

I have never had any issues with RC... I don't know why so many people do. I have heard good things about the tropic marin salt as well as Kent, but I have yet to experience the sliming others have...

I was using red sea coral pro but needed salt quick so got some Instant ocean at the lfs I hate it it makes slime & brown stuff on the sides of mixing bucket so I have to use it within 48 hrs or it gets worse and it doesn't all dissolve leaves what seems to be sand in the bottom on the bucket I finally got my diatoms almost completely gone & 2 days after adding this my sand is getting brown gonna chunk it & order the red sea again

I have used reef crystals for years and have never had any issues with it. I always mix it in a 5couple gallon bucket the night before, just using the a plastic long handled spoon.

ESV is the company and the salt is B-ionic Sea Water System. It is a 4 part salt mix....2 dry bulk salts (NaCl, MgCl) and then two part liquid for all the other components of salt water. Seems to work really well. Have been using it for about 8 months and never have had a problem. Used to use Reef Crystals and never had a problem with that either but this stuff mixes clear in about a 5 to 10 mins and doesn't seem to be as harsh to corals when you first put it in.
