J’s - Elos 70 upgrade build

Hello guys,

I finally decided to post my current project.
After a 10+ year-old break I got back to the hobby last summer and set up a Nuvo 40.
I have some ups and downs with it but overall I’m very happy how things are going.

My current set up - soon to be transfer-




However is time to upgrade so first I really want to get a Reefer 250 – 350 but I didn’t have any luck finding a used one around my area and after few months of search I found a used Elos 70 in decent condition and price.
So after a lot thinking, re-search and help of my good friend we did the drive (NYC area to NJ) and pick up the tank.
I knew was going to be a project and will take some work to bring back the tank to life.
Here is a picture of the tank set up when was in the previous owner’s house.







After I got the tank back home I did some inspection and start the planning.
I was going to build a new stand however with my space limitations in my apartment as well I didn’t want to disturb my neighbors with too much noise from the power tools, I decided to just remove the back panel reinforce the stand with 2”x4” build a new back panel, do a new fresh paint job and add few personal touches.








I was going to use the existing sump but I prefer to just get a new one and avoid any headaches.

I did check multiple brands, read - watch reviews and was a very hard decision since they are great options available not to mention beautiful sumps in the market.

So I ended with the Eshopps ADV-100 and S120 Skimmer package.



I think the functionality and design of the Eshopps sump will fit my tank needs and my wallet
Yeah let's start a Story ....

I did order few other things to replace the drain and return lines as well a new return pump and other goodies.


So far this is all what I have… I’ll post more updates soon.

Found a used tank just like yours. The overflow is on the left side. Just the tank & stand. He is asking $450. I have only seen pics of it. Not really sure how the overflow works

I think that's a good price, the overflow is very simple 1 1/2 drain and 3/4" return.
I'm doing few modification in mine but I'm going to use flexible tubbing.

Here are some updates after some technical difficulties but is finally running and all my livestock from my Nuvo 40 is now in the new tank.
Took me few days to get all the RODI water I need and I finish my bucket of salt but I only need few adjustments and I should be good to go.

Also I realize one light was not going to cut it so I'm glad I got the Maxspect Ethereal bundle last Black friday and I add the second light and is much better.

I still need to build the screen top and do few adjustments... I'll post more updates soon.

i've been wanting to buy that new eshopp s120 skimmer but haven't seen any real life reviews on it so haven't pulled the trigger. Would love to hear your thoughts on the skimmer's performance. Elos do makes some beautiful tanks!!

So far I have zero complaints, very quiet and easy do do adjustments. Today I clean the cup and I can see is doing a great job collecting the waste.

Some updates.

I almost finish the sump just waiting for new Algae, pods and few plastic clamps.
I add the ATO container, build the screen net, fix the aquascape and add couple rocks.

Some updates.

Last Friday I got my order from @AlgaeBarn (one pack is for a good friend)



I work on both of the side doors and this is how look now, I still need to order a handle for the large panel.

I was looking for a cleaner look for the lights so I reach out to @coralvue for some pictures for the suspension kit for the lights since the part is listed for sale but is not image available and Chris was very responsive and provide pictures for the kit right away so I placed my order and in couple days the kits arrived.




After some work the kits are installed.

The return and wave makers are from current USA - Eflux line
I did return the wave pumps they're very nice and the control remote is a nice feature but sadly the performance is not there so I ended using my old Jebao - PP4 and so far everything is good I'll invest in other wave pumps eventually.

The eFlux DC return pump is good and so far I'm happy with it however I think is just a re-label of the Jebao DC pump but with a different controller ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Skimmer is very quiet I clean the cup almost everyday just because my GF complaints about the smell

So could you talk a little bit about the lack of performance? I am getting a couple of the next size up (1050) and I am wondering what you didn't like about the wave pumps.

The pumps are nice and you can see the quality and attention to detail is there.... great concept to run light/pump and wave makers and the app coming up soon but you need a BT adapter -- (More wires)

However the pumps didn't move the water in my tank as I was expecting, I did run the pumps at multiple speeds and at 100% I barely see any movement in my tank as well I notice dead spots all over the tank, also the LED display is super bright and bother me a little at night.

I was thinking to get the next model up but I just add my PP4's and I run it around 40-50% and do the job just fine.

Also I recently start experience some issues with my DC return pump, I did contact current-USA tech support and after multiple times finally they got back to me.

The pump is not doing a consistent flow and they did send me a new controller however now the pump shuts down random when I adjust it around 80% and I have to reset it to make it work again but only at 100%

Now I have to wait again to see if they can replace the pump ... I just hope doesn't fail until I get a replacement but I'm thinking to get a different brand and hope for the best.
