Jackie's 45g Corner Seahorse Tank

Even if the new seahorse that LA sends is a lot smaller, that will not matter to the current pony. He will just be happy to see the new one. Seahorses are not mean like other fish are to newcomers or weak individuals.
Erectus seahorses become sexually mature anywhere from 4-8 months. I am not sure if some females that develope a pouch late are just late bloomers or if they choose to turn male (much like how a dominant male clownfish can turn female if the female dies). I don't think male seahorses turn female but even that I am not positive about.

The way I deal with phosphates is a refugium with lots of thriving macros. I leave the light on 24/7 so I have a huge amount of growth.
Also I do big frequent WCs. Around 25% a week. I suck out all detritus twice a week.
And I keep my RO/DI filters changed every year.

Just reading through threads here and wanted to answer your question. Seahorses are gonochorists which mean they are of predetermined sex. Clownfish are hermaphrodites like many other fish in the sea. Female to male transformation after birth are called Protogynous hermaphrodites

edit: thought of the day: some humans are hermaphrodites it seems :)

Thanks Hans for the info.

I purchased this red grape macro a couple of days ago and thought it was actually growing on a rock. Well while it was still in the bag right before I started acclimating it I noticed that something moved so I started checking for Critters and couldn't find any. Then a few minutes later I saw it again. So I brought out my magnifying glass and took careful inspection of the "rock" to find that it was a live 3 in. clam! Score! Ginger is posing for me today in the 2nd pic (blues off) :D

And in other seahorse tank news; no signs of aptasia!!!! The berghia nudibranches did them in! Yay!!!! ( wish I could say the same for the flatworms....ugh) I have a new batch of flatworm exit however I really don't want to use it. I would love to take care of it with a nudibranch but they are still out of stock everywhere. I don't know how much longer I can hold out because the population is growing and growing. I saw a very small 6 line the other day however I'm a little concerned about getting one and not being able to get it out of the tank once it gets big.

O my Jackie, you did well to get a clam along with the red grape. Ginger looks wonderful. I am sorry that you are dealing with flatworms though.

that is awesome!!!

Oh wow I just came upon your thread, felt so bad back in march seeing that one fish grasp for air and die eventually. So excited to watch your seahorse progression. I wanted to do a seahorse tank it just appeared like SOOO much work!
