So I have just completed my normal maintenance that I have been doing on Sunday mornings. I have cleaned my hob filter, changed the foam, and a small water change. Also since I just passes the one month point I have decided to add chemi pure elite. I have been using this stuff without issue for a couple if years now. Today it has turned my water completely brown. I have been told that it will clear up over the course of a day so I am going to wait it out before a do a huge water change. #thissucks

Well my battle with chemi pure elite is almost over. It has finally cleared up and I must say my water is crystal clear. This stuff is great and I will continue to use it on sumpless tanks. All I have left to do is to clean up some resin that had made its way out of the bag. Right now there is a thin layer of brown covering the bottom making it look like I have a brown sand bed. So I will be turkey basting the bottom in the morning. As for tonight I am looking to win some more eBay auctions from mr coral!

So everything seems well minus my salinity that has dropped due to me sucking out gfo and replacing with fresh ro water. Will do a fresh water change to bring up sg. Other than that just patiently waiting...will be adding livestock. Ext week that I won on the bay.

So I made the drive on into savannah georgia today to do some coral shopping and was quickly distracted. I was distracted by the for Kessil Led pendents running on the 8 ft frag tank. While the contents in the tank were average at best, the light was pretty amazing. Such amazing power from such a small footprint. The had all three colors running and was impressed with the 15k and 20k. I was going to upgrade my t5 s to ati bulbs but with what I'll spend on 4 bulbs puts me just under half the way to a new Kessil. Also I saw a black sand that may make me switch from. Are bottom. It was a much more corse sand more like an all black crush coral.

Those Kessil LED pendants are amazing. Very curious about the sand... did you catch the brand name?

I believe it was arag alive. This is very temping cause of the size of the grain would allow me to crank up the flow.

On a bad note I just had my first tank malfunction. I just got done doing a 5 gallon water change and cleaning all the glass inside and out due to a little gfo from the chemi pure. I replaced my filter pad and went to cook dinner. Went in my room to see how things were and the aqua clear was overflowing. I don't know what happened I think I could have knocked the aqua clear of balance. I lost close to 4 gallons which meant 4 fresh gallons of salt and a wet floor. Just glad the flood didn't reach any of the electronics.

Wow! Sorry to hear about the mishap and glad the water didn't make too much of a mess or reach your electronics.

So not much has changed. After the clown incident, I have been weary to add life quickly to the tank. So I have been keeping up the tank maintenance, testing and being patient. My water quality is stable. Live rock is full of color and some bad hitchhickers methinks. I plan on adding coral this week. Stay tuned for pics.

Jay - your SN sounds really familiar. Did you used to post on another forum? Anyway, I'm down here in Georgia but my folks have a place in sea pines. I just set up my new yank though and once it settles I could bring some corals your way once I have some extra to spare. Tank looks great. Hopefully you got a good deal on that mp-10.
I haven't been to a LFS in HHI for probably 9 years ago but they did used to have one up across the highway from Hilton head plantation. Not sure if it's still there though.

Dont worry about that calcium. If you can keep it up that high while maintaining your alk you will be golden. Good luck with the tank!

Gabe, yeah I used to be pretty active on reef frontiers and nano-reef.com. And no there isn't any LFS other than petco here. I have to drive to savannah for a LFS.

On another note I have some growth on my live rock that I have id'd as turnicates. They are quite ugly and wanted to find out how to remove them. But all I could find is posts about how they are tough to keep and is a sign of well maintained and stable water quality. They are harmless so I may leave them alone and hope that one of the more attractive colors pop than the white ones I have.

So I will be receiving a nice little package tomorrow. In it will be a vortech mp 10 es and a tunze 9002 skimmer with intank skimmer cup. I do not run a sump or an ato so I hope I can do e a way to make the skimmer work so I can keep some fish. Also I have added one neon dottyback. This guy is full of personality and eats like a pig. I just can't get a good pic due to his constant moving. FTS Coming tomorrow with new gear!

I'm loving the MP 10!!!! Only problem is now I cant decide on which setting to leave it on. I'm torn between reefcrest and custom short pulse. The tunze skimmer I have not installed because its bigger than I thought and where I want to mount it the skimmer cup doesn't clear my t5 fixture. I have removed the other power heads and I love the addition space. Here's an updated and slightly dirty FTS

Tried to install the tunze but there was just too many micro bubbles. Really suited for all in ones or in a sump. I will adding a kessil 150w within the next week or so and I have to get on a coral spending spree. I am going to Disney world for labor day and plan on visiting the awesome shops in the Orlando area.
