This can be cheaper. You also have better control of the plumping parts you will use. So, lets say the plug in play system includes a cheap $50 kit that is just green vinyl hosing. That is money you can spend on your own tubing. If they include a sump, you may not like their sump. That is money to your own.

A lot of DIY people would rather have control. We pnp people just did it because it was an affordable option and wanted something.
