Jbj 45 rl versus Innovative Marine 40

Lol maybe one day being in high school i really cant afford that.

JBJ RL-45: $400
JBJ RL-45 Stand: $300
Total $700

Red Sea Reefer starts at $850. You can get 10% off at BRS.

Just putting it out there, no need to get the sumped one but IMO its better to get something nice first than settle now and upgrade later.

This is coming from someone who went from a JBJ RL-45 to a Red Sea Reefer :)

I don't plan on buying the stand since i heard it was low quality. I get what your saying but spending $850 upfront isn't an option.

Okay, yeah no problem. What lighting are you planning?

I work at an lfs, and I have the jbj 45. My biggest issue with the im 40 is the proprietary filtration, at 10 bucks a pop on the sock that you can't wash, other than rinsing in the sink; you're looking at an additional 120 a year give or take for the im. On either, lighting must be planned logically, either gooseneck brackets or hanging for leds, or side mounts for t5.

Thanks for that info. I was thinking of going with the jbj too. I like the extra 5 gallons it provides as while as the rounded edges.

+1 for rounded edges! I wish some of these manufacturers would get rid of the black edge. imo

Cool deal . Marine depot also has a video on upgrades if you wanna check it out . Kinda gives some ideas .

I have the JBJ 45 and I bought the stock stand. I think it's ok although I did take 1x4's and put two across each side and two across the top ( supported by the side 1x4) just in case. I'm happy I did it but again I lost two inches .

Buy a Sump sure there is things you can do in the back but I'm adding a trigger systems Crystal cube and along with the back area I will add another 20 gallons. I don't plan on adding any more fish than what I have other than a wrasse and a flame angel

Can you post a link to your build thread? If you have one...

I haven't done the sump as yet. I'm waiting for the last of the plumbing to come in.
I am hard plumbing everything except for the last part of the return ( going over the back of the tank)
My build is my name Bescher's little part of the reef
And have everything except this part. Everything is ready to go making water now
Had trouble with the overflow but here's a link to my you tube channel ( not too good at it yet)

There are several guys on YouTube that have 45's another guy that added a sump i got ideas from him and using some of the same parts. I would be happy to answer question as soon as I can. The guy is great but it takes two or three days to get a answer

There is also a guy his channel is CJ's Aquarium he also has a 45 but has not added a sump

Once I finally thought i had made up my mind. I started reading of people who said there jbj 45's had cracked where the curved glass is. I am unsure now on if this is rare or a common occurrence.
