Jbj 45

Yes seeing a few pics online it shows the chambers. I'm curious as to why they don't go all the way to the bottom and leave like an 1" under them. Any benefit? How do you clean that out cause I'm sure detrius builds up big time. I plan to make 2 panels that include the bottom on both sides. Then the middle chamber will house the usual pump. I had a BC 29 years ago and had a Sapphire skimmer in there. I'm wondering if I can mod it to fit one side.. hmmm

Because the water goes into the outside baskets which are intended to be for filtration. The next are for heaters or a Skimmer if needed and then the return

Just be aware that the manual or .pdf may not be accurate or up to date. Of course, the configuration would certainly work still, but may not be the original configuration of that specific tank. I posted the dimensions of my JBJ 30 on this site because it was so different from the manual.

I know you have the 45, but posted anyway as an example. My guess is JBJ changed it over time to be a better fit for the equipment available.

Thats awesome info, thanks guys! Now I get the extra space, makes sense, I will follow that and reproduce it. Is the face of the sump plastic or glass?

It’s acrylic or some type of thin plastic. BTW, the holes Bob was speaking of helps relive pressure on the panel. From everything I have read.

Hmm I just pulled it off the website just now and the size hasn’t changed from mine which is three years old that I could tell

Yes they equalize the level between the front and back and I believe it’s eithe plastic or very thin acrylic as you can bend it very easily

Good to know. Maybe it was just the 30 then which was obviously smaller. The display is smaller than the manual says on it and the two heater chambers wider (center less wide). It makes sense as it allows for a Tunze 9004 to fit as well as different heaters.

My tank is 23" wide x 17"H x 21D. I'm just worried if I use acrylic on that front panel, there maybe issues. If I have notches cut in the glass for the overflows, I would have to come up with some sort of grate so nobody goes surfing over the edge. But I could easily router the grate on acrylic

do you want a picture of mine? I can post it in the morning

Well here they are crappy and and all I don’t think they will help
The first is looking from side to side and the second is looking down into the basket

Cool, thanks. Now i have to find a tinted piece of acrylic. 23x17. My plan it to make the sump front panel, glue the chambers to that. Then I will silicone in place. I have a trick i use for acrylic to glass. I drill a series of holes along the caulk side so the silicone goes thru those holes to provide more grabbing power

Now that I think about the basket are made of glass and yes they “glued” to the acrylic with silicone.
Here are two pictures of the front of the acrylics although themore I look and touch I thinks it’s just 1/8 in plastic
Left and right side returns,
