JCOLE's Big Box of Rocks

Gorgeous color on it!

Thanks Tim! I agree. Its a very deep blood red. It is up high in the middle and the color brings your eyes right to it when you walk into the room. Can't wait for this one to take off.

I have added some new pieces to the frag tank and things are starting to grow in the frag tank since my last update. The DT only has room for a couple more pieces and my frag tank has a lot of new pieces. Might add another frag tank to the system. I will wait to add more to the display until some of the pieces grow out. I only want to add the best ones to the DT since room is limited.

Unknow baby blue finally growing after 2 years!

Secale - I lost this one in my DT except for one little frag I saved. The base barely survived in the DT and it is now growing in my DT. The frag in the frag tank is finally growing out and coloring up nicely. I love this piece

UC Strawberry Shortcake - this one also RTN'd in my display last year. I cut a frag in an attempt to save it and it is finally growing and coloring up nicely.

NOW THE BEST - I LOVE THIS PIECE!! I was browsing corals and walked past all the fancy named designer pieces selling for $$$'s and this $20 piece caught my eye. I have only had it for a month but it is a fast grower and grabs my eye every time I look into the frag tank. It's no rainbow but who cares. In white lighting, this one is a stunner. Brown body with glowing white into fluorescent blue tips. This one is definitely going into the display.

Have to apologize! I've fallen behind following your build the last couple of months. Looking great! Your recovery plan is clearly on track. I love your choice of new pieces! Your photos are stunning! Now that I see the rod idea in action, I like it. I too am struggling with finding room for new pieces stuck in the frag tank. The rods would allow me to place frags in otherwise inaccessible locations.

Thank you!! Now you just need to start a thread so I can have another thread to follow! :D I think the rods would look great in your tank. Coralline has consumed the acrylic and they really blend in with the rocks. I think once the corals grow out then the rods will be invisible at that point.

I'd sure be interested in some blue acros such as this HOTO. Others? Great pics, BTW.

Thank you! I love blue corals since I run a 12K spectrum. I have a couple of blue pieces. Oregon blue tort, Carolina blue tort, and a couple of others. I will try and get some new pictures tonight and post them this week.

Currently typing this with one hand. I had surgery on Thursday to repair my left bicep tendon. Fun stuff! I did manage to snap some pics last night outside the tank with the Olympus. I know they are not the best. I am doing what I can with what I got... :D

Ran across your name in the Vibrant thread, which lead me here. I'm in the Pineville/Steele Creek aread of Charlotte, recently just tore down my old SPS tank and started a new Waterbox 130.4.

Going to have to purchase some frags from you when the time comes!

Great build!

Hope you have speedy recovery.

Thanks Joe! Just got the stitches out yesterday. Should be back at it in a couple of weeks.

I did this while installing my rubbermaid stock tank to the system. Turned a water valve and tore my tendon. What's funny is I posted a picture of the stock tank and said the tank is running good now and didn't want to get surgical with the system to install it. I guess the system heard me and decided to get surgical with me! :D

Awesome! Thank you. Hit me up anytime. I will hook you up. Also love trading!

So after much thought, it appears that this is going to be the year of the upgrade. I am looking to have a custom peninsula tank built this year. I am thinking of the dimensions somewhere around 72x48x24(lengthxwidthxtall) which is around 418 gallons. Going to be a long road ahead of planning, etc.

What are everyone's thoughts on those dimensions?

Also, anyone out there with experience upgrading to a tank of this size or larger? Would love to hear some ideas or suggestions to make this go as smoothly as possible.

Wow Josh!!!
You are certainly trending in the right direction! Amazing collection, some reall cool pieces, keep them pics coming ;) Well done my friend :)

Thank you, Perry! Yes, the tank is doing well now which is why I am struggling with the idea of tearing it all down to go bigger. Won't be for another 6 months or so though. What to do, what to do?

I am all in for your upgrade! 400+ gallons is not messing around. Peninsula is my favorite format even though I don't have one myself.

Do you have a builder in mind? If you haven't seen @Hydrored latest from Glass Cages it is worth checking out. Hydro is pretty particular about stuff and he was really happy with the build quality.

Joe is building me a frag tank right now. I just started a thread on it as I built the stand this morning. It is very pretty I think.

Wow! That is one huge frag tank!! Where did you get the stand from?

Yes, I am talking to some builders right now. A local as well and I talked with Joe today from Glass Cages. Have a long 6 months ahead of me.

I just placed the order for dry rock and will order 200 more pounds in the next couple of weeks. Also picking up a 300 gallon stock tank in a couple weeks to start curing the rock.

It is a custom fab kit from Framing Tech. Right now, I am pretty impressed. The real test will be long term corrosion resistance on the zinc coated fasteners. Came flat pack shipped, 1' X 1' X 10'. Weighs 172 lbs which is nice as I can move it around pretty easy.

Not cheap though.

Thank you, Joe!

I have a lot of work ahead of me but I will be in touch very soon.

Nice! I checked them out and yes, they aren't cheap! I will more than likely build my own stand and canopy for this one. Hope the price of lumber starts to come down soon......
