JD's 40B & Frag Show Rack

JD,
Hey man good luck with your sand bed if you just took some beach sand from Ft. Walton Beach, FL It is mostly silicates and you will probably have a hard time keeping it white. I am local down here and have seen many people try it with no luck. Just a word of advice... Anyways if u decide thats what u really want then good luck with it sir. Eveything else is lloking good, like to rock work. Frag tank you built looks stellar dude. I will be tagging along to see how it goes.

Rockwork was missing something... I'm more accustom to Alot more room to work with. I do miss my 8 footer. I picked up a noisy pair of MP10s. Replaced the bearing and they're good as new.. maybe better. The dry pukani I added now has some HA, started up the GFO reactor. I'm thinking of Bio-pellets for this system long-term. I've done plenty of research, just need to pick some up and give it a go. Still no fish in the 40, however I'm putting several Black Mollies I've acclimated to salt, into the Frag tank this week.

Billy - I sure could use some "Skins" on this stand. Canopy would be nice too!

reefed - Okaloosa Island is my "Home away from home". My parents live there on the gulf. I've never had any issues with the sand that I know of.. been using it for years. I do typically run a combination of reactors, GFO included. A heavily diverse selection a Sandbed critter too. We can call it Luck, just don't jinx me! ;)

Thanks for everyones kind words, I'll leave with a current FTS.....

May I ask what type saw you used to cut that rock?

That's one of the great things about Pukani rock, it's a sawable with just about any saw. For these pieces I used a MiterBox Saw.

Nice thread and builds.

Am curious about the shrimp in a frag tank. I have always been told you were not supposed to do that because it will take the food out of the corals. I'm interested in opinions. This is my first frag tank, just a few weeks old, plumbed into my main display system. It seems to me a shrimp should be a good idea, and add some interest and life to the tank. I would like to know what fish you would put in your frag tank, my thinking is it needs one, meaning only one.

My only shrimp is actually "Upstairs, 3rd floor" in the main DT. The second shelf is where the Frag system is. It's true, shrimp ARE known for stealing Some foods. It really depends on what you'll be feeding your corals. I'm going to try using Black Mollies for any Pest that might slip past my Dipping. Plus they're known to be aggressive on algae. A Six-Line Wrasse would be another good choice.

A few friends decided I needed to add to the tank. Some of these were frags that I traded away several years ago, and some are new beginnings for me. Thanks Sean, Terry & Donnie!

My favorite Palys Grande... bought a frag of this from Matt's Coral Connection in Ft.Walton Beach. Donnie grew out some and gave these back :)

Sean wound up with a piece I bought wholesale when I still had my business... kind enough to frag a piece for me.
