I'm proud to say that I am a owner of the JF Bloodshot.

I have been searching around the Bay Area for this beauty, but have always come up empty.

Lucky for me, I visited other reef forums and found a reefer who was selling the JF Bloodshot in Southern California. Since I was visiting my parents for the holiday's, I stopped by 2 reefers and picked up a 1 polyp JF Bloodshot and 2 polyp Utter Chaos.

I was a little worried as to how I would keep the corals alive while visiting and how to transport them back to San Jose.

Well, I purchased a plastic 1 gallon fish tank from Petco, brought my Whisper air pump, mercury thermometer, heater and Ecoexotic LED strip. After going on a journey to the city of Santa Ana to pickup the JF Bloodshot, I then had to travel to Covina to pickup the Utter Chaos.

Before I placed the frags into the fish tank, I made sure that the temp was around 76-78 degrees. I slowly acclimated the frags and then placed them into their holding tank.

The next morning I packed each frag into 100ml plastic containers, wrapped electric tape around the lids and then placed each into a seperate plastic bag. Instead of bringing the corals onto my carry-on, I placed them into our luggage and prayed that the containers wouldn't leak.

I'm going to have to put the bloodshot on my wish list. I've never owned a Utter. Are they all that small? Just curious

Nice man! I still need a bloodshot just to get it off my "I've had that" list.

Utters aren't small Richie, I think those are just two tiny polyps haha!

In the 1st picture, the Utter Chaos was a fresh cut so it'll take some time before the polyp opens up to normal size.

If you look at the 2nd and 3rd picture, I have another 2 polyp Utter Chaos frag (different strain) that opens up as large as the JfF Bloodshot.

the higher up you place the utter chaos the brighter the colors...mine are near the top...youll be happy you got them

Nice pickups. Fwiw my bloodshots are happy with med flow and light and the UC's seem happier down low

Fair warning the bloodshot is a weird polyp. took me four tries to finally get one growing. They will open and be happy for a month or more then one day just close for no apparent reason and never open again. No sign of zoa pox, fungus, or anything I have ever come accross. Ive tried iodine, coral rx, revive, peroxide, and a few homemade dips to try to get them to open again to no avail. I hope you get yours on the first try nothing worse than sinking a bunch of money trying to get a polyp to grow. The bloodshot and utter are def in my top 10 favorite polyps! Nice pickup!

Great Pick up! That bloodshot looks amazing

Thanks cbrennan4, I have been searching for this frag in the Bay Area for the longest time.

Thanks for the advice ryan803. Any chance you can post a picture your your Utter Chaos?

Since I have 2-3 frags (all different strains) I will move one to the top and see how they react to my Kessil a350.

Shores805, I currently have my JF Bloodshots at the bottom left hand side of my aquarium. It gets low flow and low light.

I'll wait a few weeks for it to acclimate and possibly move it around.

Nice pick up.

Thanks Tenor.

When I had the JF Bloodshot, Utter Chaos and Darth Maul in a holding tank, my dad liked the look of the JF Bloodshot the best.

I like how a non reefer already recognizes which is a nice zoa/paly. I'm not putting down the Utter Chaos or Darth Maul, but the green's on the JF Bloodshot just pop.

JF Bloodshots are AWESOME!!!!!

Thanks Bubbles_B, yes the JF Bloodshots are my favorite frag in my tank, next to my chalices.

Yes, I heard that the JF Bloodshots are very sensitive, just like the Darth Mauls.

The reefer I purchased it from stated that his colony is very hardy.

We'll see how they do in my little piece of the ocean in the next 2-3 months.

Excellent frags, Wesley! I'd love to trade you one day in the future for those bloodshots, they look sweet and very high on my wishlist.

For reference my utter chaos enjoy a decently high light (center bottom) with good flow and grow fastest there, but they seem to have wide adaptability as i have had them under low flow and lower lighting to begin with and they looked great there too. I use a kessil 350w and the polyps are from addicting corals.

Just looking at some old threads, I too am looking for the JF Bloodshot, how is the bloodshot doing now, hope everything is well and thriving.

The JF Bloodshots are doing well.

I still have it at the bottom left side of my 40 Breeder which gets low flow and low/medium light.

That was the first spot I placed the frag eversince I got it. I am afraid of moving it, but it likes the spot.

Currently, I have 2 adult polyps and 1 baby sprouting out.

I will post pictures later this evening.

Do you know where I would be able to buy one.

Are the JF Bloodshot's really slow growers? I've had my 3 polyp frag for like 5 months now and no new polyps yet.
