JK1's floating reef

Thanks everyone :)

Thanks to a thread on here by Thanh Truong, I have decided to wrap my stand in Vinyl. He has carbon vinyl pimped his RSM and it looks awesome!

I didn’t want the wood effect on mine, I was planning on getting the tank re-cladded but not for a while yet as my funds were all going to be thrown into the livestock. Vinyl wrapping makes it much more affordable so I’ve now ordered the vinyl and hope to have a lovely white gloss stand within the next week. It will match my ATI’s nicely. I’ll be sure to take lots of pics of the progress.

Wao, sorry for your crash. But this come back it's better than before. Now you got more realstate to play with. Be careful with your fish stocking not to overstock to fast. And get an ammonia spikes again. Definitely it's coming gorgeous, keep it up and it's time for few cold beers and good music. Absolutely stunning, can't wait to see the growing process.

Thank you for your kind words. I do think the end result will look better after starting everything from small frags, it should look a lot more natural as it fill out. Every cloud and all that.

Huge thank to Thanh Truong! After seeing his awesome job of vinyl wrapping, I followed suit. I’m really pleased with the result.

I’m just waiting for plastic hinges and push open mechanisms so I can finish it.

Waooooo, waoo, what a difference. It's going to be a show piece. Definitely when I get the chance to go to England I will love to sip few beers and listen to good music at you man cave. Awesome looking tank. Like the floating scape, the dimensions... Really cool looking!!! Keep us updated!!!
Sheers...

Finished the stand.

Still have a few other bits to do to the room. Need to get rid of the black sofa and replace it with a beer fridge

Nice, but you could leave the sofa for when few friends came over to hangout, or Jam in your man cave. Beside if is the one at the end of the tank, it doesn't look that bad. Place it under the pic and look how it looks.

Defo beer fridge, I currently need to walk about 12 feet to min , really takes the edge off my buzz!

Serious dude just wow, looks great! :)

Yeah, it’s the black sofa that needs to go. I’m keeping the main sofa but will be modifying it shortly. It’s needs to be replaced with a beer fridge which will also store my frozen food. I’ll have another seat to sit on whilst I play the guitars.

12 feet is unacceptable. Ideally a man should be able to reach cold beer without having to stand.

Thanks though. I’ll mostly be watching it grow now. I have a few more zoas to add and a an Acan / scolly garden to build. Then I’m set.

I was undecided if I wanted a nem or a Goni for my clowns to ignore. I opted for this

Looking good and I really like the aquascape.

Were the first tanks problems caused by just doing everything too fast before the tank matured? No criticism intended just from the postings it seemed that the tank went from dry rock to full of SPS corals in a few weeks. Normally an LPS tank takes a while because LPS corals like mature systems.

Nice work! I continued my wrapping project with the sump. Not sure if this is an overkill.

Not at all, it looks awesome. Will hide the grime that collects between the baffles.

Thanks Joe, that was definitely the issue. I’d hoped to minimise the swings with ATI colony but clearly failed. I set up my previous tank the same way and got away with it. I knew it was a gamble but didn’t expect it would result in total loss. On the bright side, the tank should look better long term as everything will have grown into the space naturally. It was still heart breaking to lose the stock if spent years collecting.

Unfortunately, when it goes right it seems easy. When it goes wrong it goes wrong fast! Take it slow and it will be amazing.
My last tank slowly crashed after several years over a period of 6 months, I am in the process of restarting and going full Triton, patience is the key ....but its hard :)

I wasn’t rushing out of choice. Over 20 years in this hobby has taught me nothing good happens quickly. I moved house and had the old tank set up at my inlaws in a shed. I’d planned to let the new build cycle but it was September and the temperature in the shed was dropping too low and I was having to drive an hour each time I wanted to check on it. Not easy when you’ve just moved house and have 2 kids. I was losing stock anyway so had to take the gamble and move it all. I tested a few pieces first which were fine. The swings got really bad after I had moved everything and ammonia spikes wiped it all out.

Hey, so this is exactly what I would like to do with my tank. Your's looks great! So my stand and hood and not perfectly smooth. Would that be a problem? Also which vinyl brand did you use and how much did it cost if you don't mind me asking? thanks!

Sorry for the delay. Yes, you can get it from Amazon or eBay. You will need to make your tank perfectly smooth though. I used wood filler and spray primer.
