Tank is very clean so I started dosing flourish nitrogen. Thanks to @twilliard and @Diesel. Things really started to take off after that.
oo fast and Callsen problems.

You mean you had low nutrients?Would you explain more about it.

The Eshopps HOB has been on the tank for 1 1/2 years and has never lost siphon no pump. I've noticed if the return pump isn't strong enough or its dirty It gets a bubble forming in the top of the u tube. When I see this bubble forming I'll turn the flow up until I have time to clean the pump.

HOB has been on the tank for 2 1/2 years

I think im having the opposite occur, not quite sure... It seems the flow in from the overflow is slowing down over the past week or so as I have heard my ATO turning on significantly more and just putting it a little bit of water at a time. The U-Tube is working, but the bubble at the top is larger than normal.. any ideas?

I was having a problem with keeping color on my SPS corals. I was testing 0 po4 0 no3. Once I started dosing to raise these parameters my SPS started to color back up. I no longer dose these products. I keep my po4 .02 and no3 are 2-5. If these parameters start to drop I remove the filter sock unti there back to where they need to be.

Check The baffles and make sure they're not clogged up. Soak your return pump in vinegar to get it cleaned. That's all I can think of.

wouldnt cleaning the return pump make more water flow into the display tank quicker then the overflow is sending water into the sump?

I thought the same thing but it seems to work better with the return pump turned up. The HOB I have is rated for 300gph. I have a Jebao 6000 return pump that is rated up to 1400gph. I have it set at about 80% so there is a lot more than 300g going through it. I would turn the flow up until the bubble in the u tube is gone. Keep an eye on it.

i guess maybe with the return turned up - more flow will go into overflow making that work better... perhaps.. ill give it a whirl.

thanks!

any idea on how to turn off a JBJ auto top off if the HOB did fail and the water level the tank was rising?

I think the JBJ ATO Has a fail safe where it will only run so long. I have my ATO hooked up to an apex with float switches to turn off.

interesting. that is super helpful.. so basically what i am trying to do is ensure the ATO pump doesnt stay on if the HOB siphon breaks. If I put sensor 2 in mode A at the top of my display tank, upside down,... the pump should turn off when it hits that, therefore only letting the return chamber of my sump fill into the tank which I have accounted for as space in the display tank... so minimal water would go over the edge.

does that make sense?

Yes that sounds right. I also think you could put one float under the waterline in the sump. You would have to put the float switch in upside down or maybe turn the float on it. So when the water in the sump drops it should turn off.

Isn't there only two switches? I'm thinking put both float switches in the return section of the sump. 1 that keeps the water level. The other one Turn it upside down and put it below the water level. when the water drops it would be like it's raising the float switch and turning the pump off. I don't have this ATO but i think this will work.
