Just found this crab any ideas?

Yes the do like any animals.

No, dying from hypothermia is the least painful way to die. There are studies on it if you care to read them.

They get numb from cold just like us and die peacefully.

I can see your point. There is a small fraction of time where it is uncomfortable but that is short. After hypothermia kicks in there is only numbness and a bit of euphoria. Then just Unconsciousness. then you pass away while unconscious. Putting it in the toilet would be worse then just putting it on the ground and stepping on it. Crabs being cold blooded I can only assume the part between uncomfortable and hypothermia is very short. It’s also very small. Even less time. This idea came from a fellow reefer. And it makes sense. There are opposites when it comes to dying. Fire being the worst and cold being the least. As far as what I have read.

Id get rid of that thing, I had this crab from hell taking out every snail or fish that it came upon. Finally decided to break down the tank and catch it. I had to fight every urge not to punt that thing across the street and instead gave it to a local fish store.

Yeah it's already frozen in the freezer kind of feel bad now maybe I wont feed it to the pup.
On another note it did take out a firefish and probably 5 hermits. And made it to the frag table and on the frag rack. My blenny was in there with him. I love my new little bicolor blenny. He swims through the tubing from table to table when I feed the corals. Would have been mad if the crab got him too.

Feeling bad is normal, if you didn’t that would be worse. But in the end you probably saved a lot of other lives. Crabs can destroy fish/coral.
