just got a yellow fifji in...black spot. :(

I just got my shipment in form L.A
a few fish and a Y. fiji leather.
the water in the bag smelled pretty bad and after accumulating in noticed there is a black spot on the coral. boooo I really do hope it makes it. should I cut it out ?

I hear these are not the best shippers . i'll try to post a pic. just added it to the tank to its still unhappy from the trip.

I would try cutting that part off. The black is most likely necrosis. Leathers are pretty hardy so after cutting that piece off it should make a full recovery.

I would leave it alone for adapting to your tank first. Cutting a new shipped coral is very risky.

I would definitely take it out and cut off the black tissue. I've cut mine and it did great.

Yellow Fiji are harder to keep than the green toad stool. This one looks bad. I find them recover better with low flow pointing at them but with a lot of water exchange/circulate around them (I guess that takes away the waste they expel when stressed like this)...

Looks like a lot of necrosis there. Poor guy. Did you dip it at all? Lugols dip may help with infection and then you need to get the non direct flow around it. I have not had a fiji yellow though. I know they are picky. It is my next coral when I find one. Good luck!

Well that is frustrating.

Send the image or contact LA they will replace it.

I got mine from LA. They are definitely more difficult to acclimate and do not ship as well as other Sarcophyton types.

Mine like fairly high flow.

thanks guys, I am really bummed as I was so looking forward to this coral. waited many months to get it.
i'll see what I can do when I get home. i'll take it out and try to cut a frag.

it was so sale so I wounder if they knew if was not the best. or all that happened from shipping? guess i'll never know..

Yes I agree. I will be contacting L.A today. My purple fire fish did not make it either. Was in bad shape on arrival too. I am 0 for 2 for those guys

Yes I plan to because I have always wanted this particular leather and I have had no luck finding one local

The closes LFS is over in Idaho 100 Miles each way.
