I forgot I bought a ATI ICP test back in spring and after months of the wife telling me to clean the fish room I found it lol. I registered a account filled the vials up and shipped it off this afternoon. Let’s see how the results come back as I’m not a water change guy.
Will follow up in about 10-14 days as that’s the expected turn around time per their website.

Please share the results. I have one to do as well and I too am not a water change guy...lol.

Tracking shows they will receive it Friday so I’m guessing I should have results by the end of next week is my guess. I’ll definitely share as maybe 100 gallons of 300 gallons total volume has ever been replaced in years. That was not truly a water change as it was replacing the old Bio Ball sump with a 90 gallon DIY sump.

The results are is. @Randy Holmes-Farley what are your thoughts? I have chaeto In the sump, only additives are : 1/2 cup of rowaphos in brs reactor that’s changed every other month, dose evs B-ionic 2 part, and BRS kalkwasser.
The tin, silcon, Nickel, and lithium have me stumped.

Here’s snap shots if it’s not opening. Sorry I’m new to this.
Still waiting on my RODI sample results but seeing I’m running the new BRS 7 Stage Pro system I would think it should come back perfect as my incoming tds is only 95 and out going to di resins is 1 and 0 coming out.
Salt used is regular IO

Do I shock the system and do a water change? This tank has never had one.

From what I see I don't think any of those levels are crazy high. I'm far from well versed in icp. Hopefully someone will chime in who can offer some insight. I know Randy isn't on as much because he is working, but I'm sure others have had somewhat similar results. If the corals and tank look happy I personally wouldn't change anything right away.

The only issues I’ve seen lately are my zoa’s seem to have stopped growing and my Anemones haven’t been as open as full. Nothing looks bad but in the last 6 months nothing other then my SPS have seemed to have grown either.

Here is my RO/DI test. Looks perfect thanks BRS for a great system!

I wonder about the tin results, how they measure it, and if it matters. It seems every ICP test regardless of source reports high tin. I just got my ATI ICP back and it reported similar with tin being high.

#reefsquad any thoughts on my ICP results and what if anything should be done?

Hey @Hitman

I just received my first test also earlier this week. Alkalinity is high for my preference, but if you were aiming to run that high, then carry on :)

As far as what you are looking to achieve, do you plan on running their ATI Essentials or just wanted to see where your parameters were at?

If you want to start the ATI essentials, I would definitely take there recommendation on large-ish water changes to level out some of the additional nutrients and metals. I'm surprised they don't recommend adding a poly pad for metal removal, but perhaps it removes the valuable trace metals as well.. Unsure on that one.

I just started dosing Essentials last night. Looking forward to see how my tank takes to the new system. Time will tell.

I don't think any of the trace metals are critically high from a perspective of impacting life in the tank though.

With the Tin and Nickle levels, I would check to see if you lost a screw in the sump or a magnet/metal is exposed to the water and showing signs of leaching.

I tested truly to see where I was as this tank in it’s 6 years of life has never had a water change. I’ll probably add the ati manganese but the metals have me worried.

The tin, silcon, Nickel, and lithium are my concerns.

From own experiences - the silicon level is not to be concerned about. I had levels up to 20 000 microgram/l without any notable effect. Fot me - it was Siporex in an anaerobic environment that create the high levels. What I know - there is some "blocks" in the US that can create the same problems.

About lithium - I have been up in these levels too - no obvious bad effects. Tritons wanted level is 200 micrograms - not 160 as ATI:s

Tin and nickel is high - but note that Triton have 5 microgram as set level for nickel.

A water change maybe fix some of the issues - but in my experience - it can create new worries :). The first thing I do when I get not wanted figures is to look at the aquarium - is there any signs of bad things on its rise. If not there is obvious signals of this - I stay put, maybe try to remove some of the annoying figures. With some of the heavy metals I normally start a reactor with mixed Al and Fe based phosphorus removers. After this - i wait a month or two and send in a new test. I think it very important to not rely on one single test - the ICP is best to track trends. I use Triton - I do not know which test is best but I stay with one because I want to se the trends - not the actual figures. And remember - even the best analyzer can have a bad day :)

Sincerely Lasse

What issues did the water change create for you @Lasse ?

The WC was because my Si level hit the moon (20 000 microgram/l = 20 ppm). after it I had a rise in other metalls - not sure it was only the WC to blame but…….

Sincerely Lasse
